I'm thrilled to say we are finally getting my stuff moved from the garage tomorrow! We're hiring a car beginning tomorrow afternoon, when we are going to put everything in the car, and then, on Friday, we're taking it all to the storage. I think it's going to be a breeze compared to the actual move three weeks ago, I only hope I don't get the flat in November, because then we have to do everything over again in a week's time... Anyway, it's a huge weight off my shoulders to get it done, finally...
Today I had the dentist's appointment, and it went well. Everything looks ok, or as good as can be expected, and the main thing is that I'm finally well enough to go, and to get all the stuff I needed to do weeks ago done. Resting has given me lots of energy, and I'm getting eager to learn about new things again, as witnessed by the books I've been borrowing recently. I'm looking into Greek Thought, a study of how the ancient Greeks saw themselves, their world, and their pursuit of knowledge. I don't know if I'll have the patience to read all of it, because it's about 900 pages long, but I like reading something a bit deeper for a change, after all the novels I've been reading recently, I'm also trying to continue my Latin studies, although I really need a Latin book of my own, not just one borrowed from the library. Then there's the Qu'ran, and the book about Islam, which I want to look into. And I also started practising the keyboard again. I'm always afraid I'll forget everything I've learned, when I don't play for many days, when the truth is that I often play better after a break. I'm looking forward to practising more this weekend, but these next few days are going to be busy with the moving project. I'll try to find the time and energy to blog, though. I almost forgot how much I love to blog, and to read your blogs and comments. I'm going to try to comment a bit more often in the future...
I found the Love Never Dies production on DVD today, and I just watched it and loved it. The plot is easy to follow with all the spoken lines included, and I think the story is a touching one. I like the way Christine has grown up during the ten years she's been married, and I like her relation with her son. She also comes across as more of an independent personality in the sequel. The darker sides of Raoul, Madame Giry and Meg are believably portrayed, too, and the music is more complex than most of Andrew Lloyd Webber's other work. I just find it a bit irritating not to hear anything about the lyrics by Glenn Slater. He remains a shadowy figure, while ALW takes all the credit. Maybe that's just the way it is with musicals, I don't know. But the lyrics are beautiful, and fit the music like they grew together... Altogether a surprisingly pleasing musical, with enough dark tones to keep the sugar level from rising to extremes...
