Bramble wine

Nov 08, 2005 10:26

I've been more productive than usual over the past couple of days. I now have a big bowl of purple goo sitting on the kitchen counter. Eventually, hopefully, this will become bramble wine. I'm making it with frozen blackberries (now thawed of course) that I found at the Giant Eagle. Scott and Judy (his mom) are both skeptical about the source of my berries. I honestly don't know if it will work with once-frozen berries either. I hope so, because we're down to the last carafe of our last batch of bramble wine, now perhaps ten years old. If all goes well I'll be able to toast May Day with a glass of my new brew.

I also managed to cut back a lot more of the front azaleas. We can now actually see out the front window. And the tomato cages have been rounded up, stacked and stored in the potting shed. Next year I think I'm going to stake the tomatoes with rebar.

After I've finished with the wine, whether or not I'm successful with frozen berries, I have a Finnish recipe for sima that I want to try. It's described as a quick-brewing sweet "mead", although the recipe I have doesn't use any honey.

The weapons, yes. Amber, sure. Braids, *shrug*. But naked and ill-behaved children? Absolutely not.
