That enormous meme

Oh something worth doing!!!

You know how sometimes people on your friends-list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.

1. First Name:
Heather, sometimes known as heater

I'm making a typical face.  I wish my hair was this long again.  I had it cut off to shoulder length and I liked it for all of 2 hours.

Anyway....
here's some more pics

2. Age:
27, soon to be 28

3. Location:
Savannah, but I grew up in Memhpis and Arkansas.  I moved here for school in 2002ish.  I think it's a neat place to live.  I mean, we do have open container, lots of parks, and refined, wealthy, southern crazy people.  The weather isn't so bad.  It's hot and humid 5 months out of the year, but I've been to the beach in December in shorts.  Yesterday we had a typical southern storm.  The thunder was booming, the rain was falling, and the sun was shining.

4. Occupation:
Carriage driver and starving artist
Basically the story goes: I got a BFA from SCAD in 2004.  I was very burnt out when I finished, so I didn't paint much of anything until the end of last year.  In March of 2003 I started driving carriages, and have been at it ever since.  I don't make a lot of money, but it's fun, so who cares.  Except that I'm not using my very expensive degree for anything at all.  I'm working on changing that.  Slowly but surely.

I never post about my job except to bitch about things, but I really should because actually... my job is really cool.  95% of the time I drive the same horse.  His name is Batman.  He's a total nutcase, he's almost killed me twice, and I completely adore him.  He's a Percheron from Florida, and over 18 hands of awesomeness.  He is my equine soulmate.  So without further adieu, since most of you haven't met him, my esteemed coworker... Batman:

His usual face.

On rare occassions
I will drive a smaller carriage and a different horse.

5. Partner:
Mr. Sexy Pants, or Ken, or Kenneth.  We met in December of 2004... on the internet.  It was very random, but we hit it off right away.  He asked me out once, but I was busy getting my tattoo.  Then he asked me out again, but Papu had mysteriously injured herself.  So to keep him from thinking I was bailing on him on purpose, I invited him over.  We've been together nearly everyday since.  We got married on September 20, 2008 in a square downtown, and had the reception at a train museum.   Married life is the same as it was before, because we lived together for 2 years before that.  Sometimes he can be a total douche, because he doesn't really "get" the horse thing, but he makes up for it in other ways.  He's a UPS driver.  He hates his job.  He's aspiring to be a photographer instead, and so far it's going well for him.  He also likes video games, paintball, and Jeep Wranglers.

6. Kids: none yet.  We're trying believe it or not.

7. Brother's & Sisters:
I have 2 younger, full brothers, Nathan & Cameron.  Nathan is 25.  He just got a degree in film & television, and has been working at a local news station in our hometown for a few years.  He's very opinionated, and he used to play the guitar really well.  We used to fight a lot, but since I moved away we get along better.  I'm closer to him than any of my siblings.  Nathan is someone I think I would actually hang out with on a regular basis if we lived closer together.

Cameron is 21 and is looking for a place to go to aviation school.  I moved to GA when he was still in jr. high.  I'm sad to say I don't know him very well at all.  He's a good kid though.  He also plays a lot of video games.  Like a lot.  And he has longer hair than me.

Nathan in the blue, Cameron in black

Yeah Nathan and I have things in common.

I also have 2 half sisters from my Dad's first marriage.  They grew up in Belgium and I didn't meet them until I was 7 or something, and then again when I was 12ish.  They're in their 30's now with 7 kids between them.

Audrey.  She's a lab tech in a hospital where my parents live (Arkansas)

Jennifer.  She welds stuff.  She moved her family back to Belgium last year.

8. Pets:
Several.  I'll go in order of when I got them.

Jake the snake.  LOOK OUT THERE'S A PICTURE OF A SNAKE HERE.
I got him ages ago as a very small snake.  He's now about 4 feet long.  I've been considering finding a new home for him, because I rarely get him out anymore.  He creeps Ken out.  I don't know if Jake cares that he never gets out of his tank, which is pretty large, so I don't know if it matters.

Papu is a hound mix of unknown variety.  I adopted her from the Humane Society when I was a Sr. in college.  That was a really bad idea, but we're perfect for each other.  She is, at times, extremely annoying because she's a huge drama queen.  She will limp if she gets a leaf stuck to her paw.  She's also wicked smart.  I swear that dog speaks English.  I had great aspirations for her to be a barn dog, so she could go with me everywhere, but she's terrified of horses.  She is my shadow 99% of the time.  She's definitely a mama's dog.  I had her before Kenneth.  She is mostly the reason my whole life is the way it is today.  I love her more than anything and oh she knows it.  For a long time it was just the 2 of us, and I think some times she misses having me all to herself.

and Jet.  Oh Mr. Jet.  Kenneth and I got Jet shortly after we got together.  He'd had dogs all his life.  He loved Papu, but he wanted a dog of his own.  We went down to the Jacksonville Humane Society to look at a boxer, and instead we fell in love with this crazy black pit bull.  No really, he was crazy.  The shelters workers basically threw him at us, and said "Good luck with THAT one!"  Well, with a lot of patience, treats, exercise, and this one time when I threatened to take him back to the shelter, he became The World's Most Awesome Dog.  He's still crazy, but in his own special way.  He has more personality than any other dog I've ever met.  You can't sit down without him getting in your lap for snuggles.  He gives 120% all the time, every time.  Whether it's sleeping, eating, running, or playing, he gives it his all.  He does nothing half-assed.  He is our wild child, and Papu is the good girl.  We love them as if they were our children.  They sleep on the furniture, and they curl up with us on the bed.  We don't know how old they are exactly, but Papu will be 7 around July and Jet should have turned 6 recently.

My sweet babies

They're both going gray pretty early.  I swear they look older everyday (but they don't act like it)

Handsome Devil

And of course, there's Finn.  Most of you know Finn.  He's a 2003 model unregistered palomino paint.  He's pretty awesome.  I bought him as a 2 year old in July 2005.  His previous owner bought him online, sight unseen, and had him shipped to GA from TX as a yearling.  He was a little too dull for her taste, so she sold him to me.  I found out about him from someone at work.  The last thing I ever should have done was buy a baby (but he was pretty).  I could be schooling cross country in Aiken right now on some nice, older, not as hard to ride, been there done that type horse that I should have gotten instead, but... no.  It's ok, I didn't get it at the time.  Even so, I'm glad I got him.  He's made me a better rider and a better person.

For scale... Finn is 15.2, I'm 5'7"

Batman is ginormous

9.  List 3-5 things going on in your life right now.

9a. Landscaping!!!!!  I've been working in the yard a lot.  Now I know why other people pay professionals to do this.

9b. Working working working, saving money, trying to plan vacations.  Or... why I can't go to the WEG and I'm pissed about it.

9c.  There's really not a whole lot going on.  My houseplants are finicky.  I'm going to Knoxville for my almost Grandma's 90th birthday (we're not actually related, but that's a long story).  Really all I do is work, walk my dogs, ride my horse, take care of my house, and try to paint stuff.

10.  Parents:
Daddy, architect, 64, lives in Arkansas.  My Dad is really cool.  He's really good at woodworking, and he's more of a technology geek than most people my age.

Mom, drafter for Daddy, former school teacher, math whiz, 58, level a zillion on WoW.  Yeah, my mom plays WoW.  She does raids and stuff.  Or something.  I don't know anything about WoW.  My Mom is my best friend.  I tell her everything, and she's really awesome.  I miss my family A LOT.

11.  Who are some of your closest friends:

Mark is my brother from another mother, I guess you could say.  We went to high school together, but didn't hang out until later.  He makes me laugh like no one else.  He lives in Tucson now with his wife.  We get to see each other like once a year.  It sucks a lot, but we talk frequently.

Adriana (who some of you know from LJ land as x0arkadia0x I think) & I went to SCAD together.  We were the same major, and she creeped me out at first.  I mean, she drove a pink hearse and dressed like Snape.  But then I found out she worked for a carriage co. too, and she rode at an awesome barn.  And lo, we were pals.

Adriana introduced me to Jennifer.  She started as an instructor.  Over the course of our relationship it changed from instructor, to barn owner, to boss, d) all of the above, but really she's my friend.  I cried when she moved her barn to Aiken.  She is the reason I am still riding today.  She took my emotional mess, and turned me into a rider again.  She's fixed my confidence on horses so many times.  She's the shit.

Melissa and her bf Brad.  Mel lives in Arkansas.  We met when we were 8.  I'm a day older than she is.  We were horse crazy girls.  We used to tote our Breyer collections back and forth to each others houses to play.  She's 110 lbs of awesome, and she's a badass vet tech now.  We don't see each other a lot, but we're still close.

Andrew is a fellow carriage driver.  He's 11 years older than me.  He got me into autocrossing, and all this other car stuff.  We also like drinking a lot, and complaining together.

Matt & Bridgit.  Matt went to SCAD the same time as me.  He was friends with my ex Dan, but we never met.  Matt moved to NY, and then moved back here, Bridgit in tow.  We finally met on my 25th birthday, and he & Ken hit it off.  They're still BFFs.  However, they got better jobs and moved back to CT where their families are.  Ken and I are still bitter and sad.  Matt is a kickass motion graphics artist, and Bridgit is a graphic designer.  They also race cars.  Matt could take apart a Honda with a screwdriver & a torque wrench while blindfolded.

Matt loves Jet.

Since most of the friends on here have moved away recently (some of you that moved a while ago that I didn't mention... you know who you are and I miss you all terribly)... I was going to post some of the people I actually hang out with, BUT I've been working on this forever and now it's storming outside AGAIN, and I really need to take a shower, SO I should end this post right now with this terrible run on sentence.  Hooray!
