John was surprised at how quickly Rodney seemed to settle in, it probably had a lot to do with the fact that he had a project to work on. He and Daniel were working tirelessly on the document, Daniel translating and Rodney working the equations. Rodney had brought a few home and he could see what Rodney found so fascinating. The equations were practically poetry.

While Rodney had been working with Daniel, John had been working with Ronon. He was determined to get back into shape and Ronon was determined to break him apparently so it worked well for them both.

Most of the other Dragons and the soldiers from off world all gave Ronon wide berth and it wasn’t until the 4th week in the mountain that John had found out why.

John, Rodney, Carson and Ronon were all having lunch together. Carson and Rodney had been bantering back and forth lightly. The two men seemed to have picked up where they left off friend ship wise, both agreeing to get over past hurts.

“I still think it’s all voodoo,” Rodney snarked as Carson talked about a soldier with broken arm he’d treated that morning.

“I’ve told you a million times, I’ve never used voodoo to heal, I’m Celtic.”

“Same difference,” Rodney raised his hand waving Carson’s protests off.

“Not even clos-“ Carson had started to argue when the leader of SG-4 had burst into the Mess.

“Carson! Grab your kit we need you off world. We found a runner!”

Carson had moved faster then John was aware he could seeming to fly out of the mess.

“What’s a runner?” Rodney asked.

Ronon had been frozen in his seat starring after Carson his face blank.

“Ronon?” John had asked frowning, “You alright?”

“A runner is someone the Wraith tag. Stick a transponder to their spine and release them. Then they hunt them, like a dog.”

The utter horror in Ronon’s voice was almost as bad as what he described.

“They really are monsters…” Rodney had said eyes wide.

Ronon stood up then and walked out without a word.

“Is he ok?” Rodney  had asked stretching over and stealing Carson’s dessert.

“I’ll go find out,” John said standing up. “I’ll see you at dinner?”

Rodney nodded, “Sure,” he replied around a mouthful of cake. “See you then.”

John had hunted Ronon down, finding him in the sparring gym in Dragon form. John had changed effortlessly and stretched out slowly, ‘Want to spar?’ He asked the rust colored Dragon.

‘Not really in the mood for training.’

‘I know, but you look like you’re in the mood to kick some ass.’

Ronon had grunted then deadly still for a moment before charging him with a roar.

They fought tooth and nail for nearly an hour John had used every trick he could remember but Ronon had one in the end. His seemingly endless amounts of energy fueling him on hen John was beyond endurances limits.

He’d lay pinned to the ground panting and as soon as Ronon moved he’s transformed back into human form. “Now that was a fight,” John had murmured standing up slowly.

“I was tagged,” Ronon had said as he transformed.

“When?” John had asked not expecting that response.

“Year ago. Was on a mission and my entire team was captured, I was in human form when they stunned me. It woke up with the tracker in me.”

John had stayed silent letting Ronon talk.

“They killed my team but decided I looked feisty so they tagged me. I couldn’t transform back, because I didn’t want them to know what I was and we didn’t know what the tracker would do to me. Carson met me on an abandoned planet and took scans and then I ran.” Ronon had paused for a few moments before continuing.

“I moved planets 9 or 10 times a day but the Wraith still found me again and again. I killed hundreds of them. I knew I had to stay alive for Carson, I fought for him every day. Then one day he came up with a plan, a way to remove the tracker.”

“I take it his plan worked?” John had asked.

“Yep… met up on the same planet and he removed it.”

“And now he helps other runners.”

Ronon nodded, “He has to hurry though, can’t be in one place for long or the wraith will find you.”

“We’ll get them Ronon. I promise, we’re going to destroy them,” John had growled fiercely.

“Want to spar some more?” Ronon had answered.

“I think I’m to sore to exist so, no thanks.” John had stood up slowly and Ronon had grinned then seemingly out of his funk.

“I’m going to go get something to eat,” the big man had left heading to the mess.

John had headed home then surprised to find Rodney there already. “You’re home…” He’s said dumbly.

“Carson told me what happened…”

John had nodded, “Ronon told me.”

“The wraith need to die.”

“Yes they do,” John had agreed, “several times over.”

Rodney had nodded then and begun talking about something else.

“You with us?” Ronon asked hitting his knee and knocking him out of his thoughts.

“Just thinking,” John replied.

“Well less thinking, more working,” Ronon ordered.

“You going to kick my ass again?” John asked.

Ronon narrowed his eyes, “In which form?”

“Ha Ha,” John smirked and picked up the sticks he’d been fighting with earlier. “Round 22?”
