Showstoppers 2011 (currently named Broadway Showstoppers but soon to be changed)

Oct 18, 2011 03:46

Tonight was the first 'getting to know what to expect' rehearsal of our Broadway Revue show we're doing November 11th!!! It's not really a braodway revue though, so we're changing the name to Showstoppers 2011 since the show is 11/11/11 <3!!!

I don't remember/know ALL the songs we'll be doing, but it's a long show. It's two acts, one night only, and seriously, I doubt MANY people will come, but those that do WILL. NOT. REGRET. IT! It's going to be hard work since we've only got three nights (four hours each) to rehearse before tech week (props and dress rehearsals) and performance that weekend and this show involves a lot of songs, SEVERAL costume changes, and at least two songs with some for-real choreography!

I know we open with an Abba Medley of Fernando, Mamma Mia, Waterloo, and Dancing Queen, which are all HORRIBLE songs because I HATE Abba, but they're fun and we get to embarrass audience members by running around the aisles during Dancing Queen and drag people up to dance with us (MUAHAHAHAHA!) and we're closing the show with Defying Gravity from Wicked, which I ALSO hate, but also enjoy singing cause it is a pretty song, I just hate Wicked and that is THE defining Wicked Song.

It's not ALL hated songs though! I get a duet (my biggest part, since the rest of mine are ensemble, even if I may get a few solos within ensemble songs) with Cera singing the Stepsister's Lament from Cinderella, which is a REALLY fun song, I'm VERY excited to hear Amber and Alex (Two of the BEST voices I've heard in person) are going to be doing this really awesome duet version of Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera, CHRIS IS SINGING MUSIC OF THE NIGHT FROM PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!! Chris has an AMAZING tenor voice and Music of the Night is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SONGS EVER OMFG ASILFJ:ALFKDSJFKJLDS (I adore Phantom of the Opera, amazingly beautiful compositions) um.... there's a few songs I don't like that others are doing, but I do like this one song we're doing that is mainly Alex with the rest of us as backup but it's either the song from Chicago or A Chorus Line and its a sultry song so we're doing sexy chair dancing behind her (complete with black vest, black fedoras, short shorts- chelsea says YIKES at that- and probably fingerless gloves and fishnets!!!) so we get to horrify all our parents by dancing like strippers! YAY! The best part is that two of the girls are mormon! hahahahhaha oh GOD their mom is going to freak out like WHOA. She barely let us put Amber in a spaghetti strapped dress on a Sunday, it was so scandalous, so I can only IMAGINE what she'll think of her 14 year old Katie Lynn dressed as a show girl doing leg-spreading chair dancing!

Also, we're doing this Les Miserables medley that includes one of the most BEAUTIFUL lyrics ever (though, for the life of me, I can't find the song! I think it's from the Finale but the VERSION we're doing is so much more beautiful) which are- "To love another person is to see the face of God" which is... so fucking true. I honestly believe experiencing honest to God LOVE, no matter what kind of love, is the closest to God anybody can be. Chris was all 'those are the most romantic words EVER' but honestly it doesn't have to be romantic love in my mind, any love is perfect!

I don't KNOW, but I think someone's doing the 'you don't know this man' song (idk the title) from Parade, which is AMAZING! Holy shit, it's beautiful!

Also, the start of the second act is an Amy Winehouse tribute and we didn't discuss it, but since I'm the only girl with a voice low enough to sing the late singer's SUPER!ALTO/ almost TENOR range, I hope I get a small solo in that song. I'm a low alto, the other two altos are both like... high altos, nearly sopranos.

We're also doing America from West Side Story, so on top of our chair dancing, we've got to learn a flaminco style dance, AND another song IDK we're doing a FULL dance number (a four minute song.. yikes!)... Chelsea doesn't dance well. I CAN, but learning it is hard as hell for me, and we've only got TWELVE. HOURS. to learn ALL of this... oh God help me!

There are several other songs I don't remember, but under the cut, I've embeded the one's I can find!

MY DUET!!!

We're all playing Puerto Ricans.... lemme explain, we're all either VERY white (pale, all of us, and only two of us have dark hair and eyes), or our ONE black girl, lol. That will be fun to get across to the audience!

I think there's another, but this is the song he played for us for the tribute:

This is the song from Parade (AMAZING show, one of the songs made me bawl when I heard it) that I THINK is in there, but I'm not SURE:

Then, we have the ones I'm most looking forward to... PHANTOM OF THE OPERAAAA!!! (favorite musical ever):
Obviously this isn't the version they'll do, since they're doing a contrasting duet (blonde girl in a white ball gown, redhead in a black one sort of a play on Christine/Carlotta)

Chris will sing this one, mainly its in so we'll have a costume change break, but I'm excited, his voice is gorgeous, I bet it will ROCK!:

On that note, my mom doesn't sing anymore, she barely sings along to the radio, but when she was in school, she was a trained soprano for chorus, and I knew this, and I know she sings well, but I have this song (and the previous one) on the mix cd in the truck right now, and apparantly, she's learned this song, because she was SINGING IT WHILE I DROVE! My Mom, who is 45 and hasn't TRIED to really sing since her early 20s before they stopped going to church, hit EVERY note, even the 'Super E' at the end!!! I now know why she's not impressed by my voice at all. I mean, it's not impressive really, it's so low and such a small range, but my daddy like... LOVES when I sing, and everybody tells me I have a pretty voice and I've been in musicals, ect, and she's always kinda 'meh' about my voice adn sometimes tells me 'God, shut up, you cannot sing that song AT ALL!' in the car... now I see why! Fuck, if I had her voice, I'd have never stopped singing! Hell, I'd never speak! I'd sing everything I had to say ALL DAY! It drives me CRAZY that she's so good and doesn't use her voice and I train my hardest to be average!!! Seriously, she hit a Super E without really even warming up, WTF MAN?!
