It's time for my album review! *hears people not care*
I will admit, this is a biased review. I am going to tell you now, this is a review based on 'as a pop album'. I'm not a massive pop fan, so it would be unfair for the album to reviewed in context to ANY album at all. That said, I have gone back and altered the 'out of ten' rating on some of my old reviews (though I didn't change the original review at all), so check those out.
All in all this is a very good album. It follows an album that I sorta hated a lot and is a very GOOD pop album! It's basically all fun and poppy and all the good things about pop music is present: Good voice, good beat, and best of all, high sing-along-ability!
NOW! Let's get started!
1)Ballad of Mona Lisa: This was a good choice for the first single. The music is good and upbeat and DRIVEN. The words, which I rarely care about, are really easy to follow along with. Add in a few great high notes worthy of the greatest pop song, and this is a good, solid, awesome song.
2)Let's Kill Tonight: It starts off a bit dubiously. The frightening synth drum start is alarming, but then it does redeem itself! The lyrics are really nice. I'm a fan of the clever wording and then the chorus's driving beat is REALLY awesome. This song is a great one to sing along to and has EPIC dance-inducing abilities. The 'strings' bit is pretty epick tool. I love this song. One of my favorites on the album!
3)Hurricane: I LOVE this song's chorus. I'm not sure about the back-to-back clapping in songs, but this song is so fun to sing. I love it.
4)Memories: The one thing I don't like is that this song's tunes sound so similar to other songs I've heard, BUT I still like singing along. Its fun and the beat is fast and inspires bouncing your leg and nodding your head along to the music. The lyrics sound like a country song, but meh, you can't have a PERFECT song, can you? Yet again, the 'strings' are really fun and exciting on this one with the mini-solo type thingy.
5)Trade Mistakes: This song has me as nom de plume. I like this song's music and beat, and I love it for the most part, until I think about how easy it could become VERY annoying if this ends up being a single. I have no clue what the chances of that are, but I'm positive overplaying this song could drive me to HATE Brendon Urie's balls... and I love him too much for that! Yet again, nice strings, as well.
6)Ready To Go (Get Me Out Of Here): Well, I like it... but it's pretty blah compared to the rest of the album. Eh, I don't dislike, but it's pretty 'whatever'.
7)Always: Okay, there are two ways to look at this... I LOVE Brendon's voice with a slow ballad... but GOD this song is boring! These two songs are like... the boredom after all that epic before them.
8)The Calander: This is a good solid pop song. It's got GREAT sing-along-ability and the words are very catchy! Great strings, great vocal solo-ish thing. NOT a fan of the little extra bit. Is that really necessary? *rolls eyes*
9)Sarah Smiles: I LOVE this song. I love Brendon Urie saying 'doll' a lot too. The only thing that gets me is, isn't this song supposed to be about his girlfriend? Call me nuts, but this isn't exactly the song I'd want my boyfriend to write me. It's kinda... bitter? I can't think of a good word for it really, but it's not exactly lovey-dovey, you know? HOWEVER, musically, what we care about, this song is pretty much on point. It's got it all- great beats, variety, great vocals... everything!
10)Nearly Witches: I love the french children at the start. I don't really get it, but it's pretty epic! I LOVE this song's music and beat. The tune is EPIC. I LOVE this song. A lot. Lyrics are odd, but hey, lyrics aren't my department, is it? I LOVE the ending with the children singing Mona Lisa. I love when the last song of an album ties in with the rest of it, bringing a good, solid end. Albums are meant to be heard in order as a whole and it's good when they feel like it, you know?
All in all, it's not perfect, and it's not a EPIC album, but as a pop album, it's awesome, and as a first attempt as a duo, it's GREAT!
Therefore, slightly against my usual rules, I shall rate it WITHOUT respect to my former ratings:
