"I love you."

Those three little words slip as effortlessly off Blaine's lips as 'hello' or 'good morning'.

While it isn't exactly a planned declaration, it doesn't scare him a bit. In truth, he's been in love with Kurt for some time now, though he's honestly not sure exactly how long. Listening to Kurt's Blackbird solo had been the first obvious realization point, but his feelings for Kurt had been in slow, deep percolation since the moment he laid eyes on him on the Dalton central staircase.

Though he's quite sure Kurt reciprocates his love, that's not at all why Blaine says it. He says it - quite simply - because it's how he feels. It's no secret that Blaine wears his heart on his sleeve, a trait which has gotten him in trouble in the past, but never with Kurt. Blaine finds himself consistently blown away by Kurt's strength and positivity. He's incredibly proud of how even in the face of a crushing defeat at nationals Kurt still focuses on the joy of having breakfast at Tiffany's and singing on stage at the Gershwin Theatre.

As Kurt's swallows down more than just his coffee, all Blaine can do is stare dumbly at his amazing, incredible, inspiring boyfriend.  It's in that moment that another realization hits him: six months ago he never would have had the courage to say those words to anyone.

He thinks - regretfully - of how he's used those words when describing his feelings about other guys. Frivolous crushes. He remembers that ill-fated attempt at wooing Jeremiah and how he told his closest friends - including poor Kurt - that he was in love. He didn't know what love meant then. But he hadn't simply sat Jeremiah down and told him he loved him. He'd been too afraid. The best he'd been able to muster was a silly serenade.

Blaine had never been afraid with Kurt. He'd been cautious - because what they shared was so incredibly important to him - but never afraid. It reminded him of a Bible verse his mother told him once.

There is no fear in love, for perfect love drives out fear.

He'd never been deeply religious, but he knew there was truth in those words because he'd felt it every day for the last six months - since the day he met Kurt. He felt it while confronting Karofsky, and as his lips met Kurt's for the first time and as he offered Kurt his hand on the dance floor at prom.

He feels it now as Kurt's lips quirked up slightly on one side and a smile forms.

"I love you, too."

Blaine feels as though his heart is about to burst with joy at Kurt's response, but he remains still, hoping to keep the simplicity of the moment intact. He's so glad that he's never actually said those words directly to anyone but Kurt because nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing he's ever felt for anyone else compares to how he feels for Kurt.

Later, as they walk hand-in-hand back to his car, he laughs thinking of those texts he used to send to Kurt. Courage - they'd read.

He laughs because it's Kurt who makes Blaine brave. Not the other way around.

"What's so funny?" Kurt asks, squeezing his hand and leaning back against the car.

"Nothing," Blaine replies, reaching up to trace Kurt's jaw line with his fingertips. He could shout it from the rooftops or hire a plane to write it in the sky but instead he comes close and whispers in Kurt's ear. "I just really, really love you."

He can feel Kurt smile as their cheeks are pressed together. He deposits a kiss just behind Kurt's earlobe and Kurt laughs softly, grabbing at Blaine's waist and pushing him away. Blaine persists though, pressing kiss after kiss to all the sensitive places on Kurt's neck.

"Stop it," Kurt demands through his laughter. Only then does Blaine relent.

"Do you mean that?" Blaine asks, looking him straight in the eye.

Kurt stops laughing, realizing they're talking about more than tickling now. He softens into Blaine's hold and wraps his arms are Blaine's neck.

"No," Kurt whispers, shaking his head. "Never."

It's Blaine's turn to smile against Kurt. He's glad because he never wants to stop. He wants to say those three words every day to Kurt for the rest of his life and beyond. Preferably every morning as he wakes up beside him.
