Secret Revealed
When Emmett Cullen asked the young woman known as Bonnie Bennett out for a date, there were two things he thought would never happen. Hell they were the farthest things from his mind to begin with. He wasn’t expecting to find out that the mocha-skinned woman was a witch. Nor was he expecting her to discover the minor detail of him being a vampire. However, fate seemed to hate him and now he was pressed up against the wall, held in place by some invisible force. He did have to say he was impressed.
“Are you going to let me go anytime soon?” He couldn’t help but ask, emerald eyes snapped up in his direction and the woman shook her head.
“No,” her lips pursed as she gave him the once over, “I really don’t think so. I can’t trust you.”
He laughed despite the situation. He was really starting to have no doubts in his mind that she’d try to kill him. Moreover, from the presence that surrounded her, she definitely knew how to kill a vampire.
“I’m a really trustworthy guy.”
“Vampire,” she corrected before he could try to continue, “You’re a vampire, a vampire that sparkles. How is that even possible? I thought all vampires combusted when in direct sunlight and needed Day Rings. Instead you walk out into sunlight and you…sparkle.”
Emmett had to admit, she was good at staying stoic, he could see as she tried to fight herself from laughing at the mentions of the sparkles. He tried to shrug but the power holding him proved to make that nearly impossible.
“We’re a different type of breed of vampire. It’s not very manly to sparkle like that but whatever, you get used to it.”
Bonnie’s brow shot up in question, “Different breed? Damon never mentioned anything about different breeds.”
“Who’s Damon?” He couldn’t help but ask about the person. The way her eyes had saddened for the briefest of moments was enough to catch his attention. He was right, the mention of the name seemed to hit a sore spot for the woman as her hold against him laxed allowing him the chance to use his strength to fight against the remaining power. He didn’t get too far before he found himself rooted to the ground. Emmett sighed turning golden eyes to the brunette as she made her way to him.
“He’s…He was someone special to me,” she allowed herself to say, the hurt in her eyes spoke volumes. He knew exactly how she felt. Every time he closed his eyes all he saw was Rosalie burning, he screams drowning out all other noises.
So he nodded at her, happy to find she was only holding him place by his feet and not his arms. Reaching out he gently rested his large hand on her shoulder. Bonnie stared at the hand before she met his gaze with her own.
“You kind of remind me of him,” she laughed and shook her head, “scratch that. You two are quite opposites actually. You have the same essence. Beneath the tough exterior he hid behind, he was amazing.”
Emmett nodded, “I know how you feel. I lost someone I cared about too. She was the world to me.”
Her eyes softened, sympathy shining through, “It’s not easy.”
“Nope, but with family that love you,” he smiled thinking about the others back home, “It makes it easier.”
Bonnie returned his smile, “I guess so.”
Giving her shoulder a light pat, Emmett brought his arm back to his side, glancing this way and that as they fell into silence. He cleared his throat after a moment, turning back to the young witch, who seemed intent on studying him.
“If you let me go, I’ll answer all the questions that seem to be swimming in that brain of yours.”
Her brow rose again and he was starting to wonder if this was a trait she had picked up from this Damon. Bonnie crossed her arms over her chest, all signs of the sad woman gone as she watched him, “Promise?”
He drew a cross on his chest with his finger, “I swear on my sparkly ass.”
Bonnie laughed at the comment, and a moment later Emmett was stretching his legs as he watched the dark haired beauty.
