Just a Little Late
Rachel sighed as she glanced once more at the watch on her wrist. The time just seemed to be ticking away and with each second she was getting more and more apprehensive. It was a feeling she knew she shouldn’t really have. They have been dating since his senior year, her junior and have lasted despite Mike having gone off to college. Rachel wasn’t as naïve anymore. She knew distance between two people could change everything. She wasn’t there to see all the girls ogle him and his spectacular dance moves. If she were there with him, Rachel knew she’d be fighting them all off.
“Rachel, you’re still here?” the surprised voiced had the petite brunette spinning around to face the familiar voice with a hand on her heart.
“Oh, Brittany, you scared me,” the blonde smiled with a shrugged, this not being the first time she had snuck up on her friend. Rachel returned the girl’s smile, “I’m simply waiting for my ride.” She frowned, sparing another glance at her watch, “He’s late.”
Distracted by with the time, Rachel missed the look Brittany gave over her head, a smile on the blondes face. “Maybe he had something to do.”
Rachel scoffed, straightening herself, “Perhaps, could you possibly give me a ride?”
Again Brittany glanced over Rachel head, quickly shaking her head, “Sorry don’t think I can. I’ll call you tonight Rach! Tell me how everything goes!” She waved, quickly running off.
Rachel frowned after her friend in confusion.
“Same old Brittany,” a voice said from behind her.
The petite brunette whipped around, staring up at Mike Chang. She fought the smile that wanted to come to her lips, instead scowling at the sheepishly looking man. Her hand came to rest on her hips as she stared up at him.
“You are late Michael.”
He grimaced, rubbing the back of his neck out of habit, “I know and I’m sorry.”
She shook her head and tapped the face of the watch with a slim finger, “Sorry would have been okay had you been ten minutes late. You are exactly an hour late.”
Mike smiled apologetically, taking a step towards the petite diva. Rachel turned her head to the side in a pout, eyes closed. His arms wound around her waist and, before she could fully protest, pulled her against him. He kissed the top of her head, nuzzling his face into her hair. “I’ll make it up to you.”
Despite herself Rachel sighed in contentment, her hand closing around the fabric of his shirt. “You better.” He chuckled, holding her tighter against him. She smiled, relishing the feel of him back in her arms. She was going to make the most of their time together. There was no doubt in Rachel’s heart as to where she really belonged.

Maybe Someday
He didn’t know everything that went down the previous year. He really didn’t need to know. They had just let him in on the basics and that was cool by him. He knew all about the baby-gate drama as well as what went down with St.Berry, as Kurt had dubbed Rachel and Jesse St. James. So when Rachel had come to him to get the okay for Jesse to join them on their ‘Prom on a Budget’ date, Sam didn’t know what to say.
He couldn’t turn her down. Her eyes were filled with so much hope and he knew to while how much it hurt when someone crushed it. So he said yes. Rachel was so excited; she had jumped up and hugged him so tightly that he almost thought she was going to strangle him. It was almost worth it just to see that bright smile of hers.
The whole inviting Jesse thing, wasn’t so bad. Sam kind of felt as if he needed to get Jesse’s approval for some reason or another. He was only a little disappointed when the older boy poked lightly at his tie. It was okay though, Jesse really wasn’t as bad as Finn made him out to be. He could tell the former lead for Vocal Adrenaline really cared for Rachel and vise versa. This dampened his prom just a little bit; he was just good at hiding it.
The way they danced together was far to close for just friends. He kind of understood why Finn went ballistic from the closeness. Unlike Finn, he knew better then to interfere. It was Rachel’s decision for who she wants to be with and ex-boyfriend or not, Finn over reacted. By the end of the night, he was silently thanking Finn for getting himself and Jesse ejected from Prom.
He had Rachel to himself for the first time all night. No Jesse hogging her for dance. No Finn glaring from over Quinn’s shoulder for a simple hand on her shoulder. As Santana and Mercedes sang, it was just them. The night only got better as he continuously heard her laugh, his mad dance skills always made the girls smile. The song changed and he held his hand out to her and pulled her close. She smiled, leaning her head against his chest as they moved to the music. He couldn’t help but think that maybe someday they could be a little something more.
