Books, Secrets, and Mayhem (ota, gentle tag to Max)

Sep 16, 2014 21:41

Liz was already in the library to look up things to help with an assignment. It might only be the second full week of school, but she had some homework and her advance placement courses required her to be on the ball. She also felt at home with the books. None of them were there to judge her. They were there to give her advice and to teach her. Liz ( Read more... )

Max hadn't been avoiding Liz per se, it was that he just hadn't gone out of his way to see her happy with Roman. He should have known that he'd see her here and maybe subconsciously he did and that's why he'd come to the library. When he saw her reach for the book and the resulting fall, he quickly reached her side to try to deflect them from her.

Perhaps it was partially instinct, but the moment Max was close t her, Liz stepped closer which would make it easier for him to deflect the books, which it did. Even in that short moment, Liz was aware of the heat Max seemed to give off. It was familiar and warm and she had to mentally force herself to take a step back.

"Thanks..." She offered him a somewhat awkward, but appreciative smile.

Max was well aware of the closeness of her body as soon as the books were deflected and took an awkward step back to force himself not to step closer.

"Your welcome." His smile was just as awkward. "Here let me." He bent down to pick up the books, mainly to give himself something to do so he didn't stare at her.

"No, it's okay." She bent down, too, to gather up the books for much the same reason as Max did. Though Liz ended up reaching for the same book at Max and she touched the back of his hand. He was warm and his touch familiar, but what Liz didn't know was she had inadvertently sent a flashing image of an older Max in her bathroom and a strong sense of gut wrenching sadness.

Liz picked up the book with an apologetic smile and stood up to try and deposit the extra books back on the shelf.

Max blinked in surprise and confusion as he suddenly saw an image of himself. It was definitely him and hit was definitely in the future. His mind tried to rationalize it but all he could think of at the moment was why did he have long hair?

He mentally shook that question away and the question that popped out of his mouth was, "Liz, why do you have a memory of me when I was older?"

She paused she slightly with her arm extended upward when he asked the question and took a brief moment to close her eyes with her body naturally turned away from him.

The book in place on the shelf, Liz lowered her hand and turned to him. "I don't know what you're talking about." She tried to look as believable as possible.

Max lowered his voice, "Liz, I saw it." He didn't know what he saw but the image was burned into his mind as was the emotions with it.

Liz mentally kicked herself, but tried not to show it outwardly. It probably showed a little, though. Despite lying a lot lately, Liz had gotten only marginally better at it.

She opened her mouth, about to tell him it was just a dream she had, but she knew that wouldn't work. What he saw didn't work like that.

"I can't... I don't want to talk about it, okay?"

Max wasn't going to back down, but he also wasn't going to push her. He stepped closer and looked into her eyes. "Liz." He said softly, and not just because they were in the library. "I don't mean to upset you, but I saw an older version of myself in your memories. What did I see?"

ooc: Hee if she doesn't say anything in this thread, you can bet he's going to pour her some lovely bubbly stuff in the truth wacky! :P

Her hesitation was only slight - she could hear future Max telling her everyone they cared for was dead.

"Nothing. You saw noting, okay? It's nothing, I swear."

(ooc: lol that is too much fun not to pass up ^__^)

"Liz I saw something." Max stressed the words. "How is it possible that you saw a version of me, older." Not a lot older, but still older, and longer hair.

ooc: LOL

"Look, I don't want to talk about it, okay? So just forget about it." She put the other excess book away on the shelf and took a step back. Liz decided to lose some of her dignity.

"It's a fantasy, okay? Or, it was when we were together. It's just something I used to think about and I don't appreciate being asked to explain embarrassing things like that to people." She hoped her irked tone helped to cover up how bad she lied. She also had no idea she had transferred a feeling along with the picture.

Max was a little startled but knew that he'd hit on something with her irritation. However, as she went on to explain that it was something that she thought about, it explained her irritation. She was embarrassed.

"I'm sorry." He could tell there was something else, the emotion was too tied to it, but he'd drop it ... for now. Except, "you dreamed about a future me with long hair?"

It was technically a dream now, she considered. They couldn't be real anymore, right? Though at his question, she blinked.

"It... It was a phase." Could she crawl under a rock now and die? This was so embarrassing.

"You dreamed I went through a long hair phase?" Max wasn't sure if that meant that she'd like him to grow his hair more. He'd have to think about that.

Maybe she should have said yes, but... "No. I mean, it was a phase I was going through... but I'm over it now." Liz glanced away. She liked his short hair although she'd really liked Max any which way.
