I Wonder... [OTA, nudge to bookshop staff]
Why hasn't he considered this before?! Well, it doesn't matter, but last night Martin lay awake and suddenly thought how good it would be to have a magazine to leaf through to pass the time until he would be able to go back to sleep.
So - off to the bookshop first thing in the morning, to see if they sell magazines. And as he steps into the shop he realises he's never been in here before, too used to not having money to buy books, so he's only been to the library before. But here he is being paid, and though he doesn't know how much he knows can afford to buy things! He only has to go looking for them, which is what he does now.
