4pm Friday (OTA - Tag Leoben)

Apr 26, 2014 17:36

John was under no delusions that this conversation was going to be entirely pleasant. It was a long-time coming and he hoped he and Leoben could come to some sort of an agreement. John wasn't sure what would happen if they couldn't. They both had different investments in the village and Alissa posed a danger to some of them. Of course, she posed ( Read more... )

Leoben came out from the back of the bakery to meet John after finishing up his work.

He didn't know exactly what it was about Alissa that John wanted to discuss, but he certainly had some ideas. It was not a conversation he was looking forward to.

Moving to sit across from John, Leoben nodded in greeting, hands folding in front of him, "John."

He nodded to Leoben in greeting. As his grandson was growing older, it was easier to see some of Leoben in John's face alongside that of Kyla. That Leoben was a machine seemed only a small matter to how happy he made his daughter. John was sure his mother would disagree.

"Thank you for agreeing to meet up." John said, "I know this isn't a conversation you or I were looking forward to."

"No, it isn't." Leoben agreed, meeting John's gaze. Just because he didn't want to have this conversation with him, didn't mean he wouldn't have it. That he wouldn't speak his peace.

"So, what is it that you wished to do in regards to the girl?"

The girl. Not the Terminator. She was more than that.

John took a moment to respond. He wanted to explain himself as best as he could ( ... )

Leoben couldn't deny that he'd thought similar things. That maybe they could do something more invasive than they had been doing so far. It was a complicated situation, considering his own background.

But this wasn't like Cavil lobotomizing the raiders.

"It's my understanding from what I've gathered from speaking with her, that she is more human, than machine as well. That the machine parts of her... aren't what she is."

He let out a heavy breath, "I'd prefer not to change her, force her in the same way Skynet is. But erasing the protocol or taking it out. I coulld be alright with that."

Although he was worried that Alissa might be upset with him for agreeing to this, so that likely showed on his face.

"I'm not convinced it would ultimately change her. Her protocol is only activated when it needs to be." John said. "So taking it out wouldn't change her personality."

He thought about mentioning that he could reprogram the girl to protect humans, but he didn't voice this thought.

"No, I don't believe it would." Leoben agreed. He was much more partial to disabling or removing it, not changing it to do something she yet again might not do otherwise, just as Skynet was doing.

"I guess the question becomes... how do we go about doing it. " John mused out loud.

He wasn't sure Alissa would go for the idea.

"I don't know." Leoben admitted. "I know she would never agree. And I know she would be upset with me, knowing I had a hand in this if we succeed."

He nodded and John thought quietly.

"We could attempt to do it remotely," He said, meaning to hack wirelessly.

"Perhaps... but does the village have the technology anywhere to do so?" Leoben tried to think of any.

"I don't know," He said honestly. "But there's a lab here which might. Or people who could build what we need."

He nodded, looking down at the table. "Alright. Can you make sure they do their best to find a way that won't hurt her?"

That would kill him, if it caused her pain.

"I'm not in the business of hurting children," John said honestly.

He didn't blame Alissa for what she was. Skynet used her. He blamed Skynet.

"Good." Leoben nodded firmly. Mostly he was pleased to hear that John thought of her as a child and not just a Terminator.
