Buffy had learned long ago that she could do more with the help of others than by herself. Sure, she bossed people around and was the General in a lot of ways with the others that helped both in Sunnydale and other places but she knew as she stood at the entrance to the lobby and looked into the ballroom, that this wouldn't have been pulled off

Rikki - OTA, gentle nudge Merlin

It wasn't often that Rikki would get dressed up beyond the casual but there were times, like now when she did. She'd found a very pretty black and green dress. Unlike the man that walked by in a tuxedo that looked confident, Rikki looked like she felt she was dressed up in someone else's clothes.

Her hand reached for a beer, no champagne for her, and glanced around the gathering looking for a familiar face.

Merlin was in a tuxedo mostly for Rikki than anyone else. The lady at the store said he looked very handsome and so he took it on faith that he, in fact, did.

When he entered the ballroom, it was hard not to get mesmerized by the decorations. There were so many and they all looked so ornate. He felt that even Camelot would feel jealous of its grandeur. Once he spotted Rikki, though, the rest of the room melted away.

He walked over with a big cheesy grin on his face. "You look beautiful."

Rikki looked down at her dress with a sheepish smile and then back at Merlin. "Thank you. It's not normally me, but I kind of like it." Her smile widened further as she took in how he looked in the Tuxedo. "You look handsome."

He flushed which turned his ears a little red. "Thanks." At least it was nice to see they were both of their comfort zone. It wasn't like Rikki was some princess used to extravagant things and Merlin was expected to keep up.

"This place always looks beautiful at this time of year. I was thinking about how most Kings would be jealous, actually."

"I know Camelot didn't have a bounce house and ice sculptures but how much did you have for fancy gatherings like this?" Rikki was always curious about his life in Camelot.

"Well... I was always serving the food so it's kind of hard to say, but we'd have music and lots of food and everyone would dress up. And we'd have banners and big bright ribbons to decorate the halls. Fresh flowers, too. It was pretty in its own way, but nothing like this stuff."

"It sounds nice. I've never been to anything like this either. I mean before the village. I'd have been the one serving food, too." Which was another reason why she liked Merlin. Even with who he'd become, he was still a regular guy.

"Maybe at some point I could show you Camelot? They have that place in Ten Forward. I think they would have it." Merlin wanted to share as much of his life with her, if he could.

Rikki smiled wide, "I would love that!" Not just to see Camelot, but Merlin's home. It was the same, but not.

(ooc: So, I had a brain fart. lol This is what happens to teachers when they have two weeks off XD )

He grinned. "Excellent." Merlin would look forward to it. Maybe he'd even show her the forest outside. He wondered if they could program things like unicorns. He had to think they could.

"I went to the library the other day -" Okay, like, when they first started dating, but he didn't want to come off creepy "- and looked up Australia. It's like any other place I've heard about."

"You did?" Rikki was pleased at that. "It's different but I like it. It's got loads of weird animals." She grinned, "not counting mermaids."

He smiled at that. Merlin had also come to realize that Australia was home to a lot of creatures that could kill you. It seemed like one of the more dangerous places to live simply because of the nature there.

Speaking of mermaids. "Is it harder to swim in the cold water here?"

"Not at all." Rikki grinned and held up her hands, palms outward. "I've got my own warming. It's different though. The fish and what you'd expect to find."

[youngmerlin]

He smiled a bit sheepishly like he should have been able to come to that conclusion himself.

"Sort of like, a whole different world, I suppose." He could picture it in his mind, but he was sure the reality was better.

"It is. I wish I could show you." Well she could but not as a mermaid/merman as she had with Raven when she'd transformed into a mermaid like her.

"Ever gone snorkeling or diving here?"

Merlin shook his head. "I'm not even sure what those things are." He looked a bit sheepish.
