Out and About (ota)

John had settled into the village in a way a military person wary of the world might. He had old, distant memories of what life was like before the war, so the village itself was not a mystery to him. He remembered things like ice cream, grocery stores, and arcades. It was surreal, but not a mystery. The question as to why he was here and how left him feeling wary. There was no signs that he could find that this place was run by Skynet, but to imply he could find signs would be hubris and John had enough of that in his lifetime. He knew better than to underestimate machines.

Over all, the people looked happy here. His daughter seemed happy although she was clearly holding something back from him. John wasn't sure if he wanted to poke around on that just yet. If she had really been here for so long, there was probably a lot she had to tell him. The father in him, however, was urging to snoop around. He hadn't brought himself to look up Kyle yet. That would be a complicated meeting and he needed some more time to mentally prepare. Today, he would just orient himself with the place.

He was in crutches. The nurse at the clinic said he'd have an easier time in a wheelchair and she might be right, but John liked the crutches. It made him feel in control even though his left leg was in a cast and it made him more maneuverable if something happened and he needed to move quickly.

John Connor walked with crutches down the street. His chest still hurt and he was sure the doctors would scold him for doing so much physical activity, but he needed to move and be pro-active. He stopped occasionally to take in the local establishments as John put the village's layout to memory.
