Rikki was usually very careful, to make sure that she didn't get wet. It didn't matter that the village was fine with her as a mermaid, it was too ingrained, and to be honest Rikki didn't want to become casual about it. It could be dangerous back home if others learned that she was a mermaid. Which was why you could hear cussing as water droplets from a sprinkler by the grassy area near the park landed on her bare arm.
Ten seconds clicked by and since she didn't want to be a mermaid floundering on the land, she made a bee line to the lake. On the very last second before she turned, Rikki dove under the water. A girl had gone in but a mermaid poked her head above the surface. "Bugger."
