“This is the Shadow Broker. The situation is under control. We experienced a power fluctuation while upgrading hardware. It disrupted communications momentarily. However, we are now back online. Resume standard procedures. I want a status report on all operations within the next solar day. Shadow Broker out.”
Liara could say that her life changed only a day before, when she walked up to the console and spoke those words to the agents, but she’d be lying. It all changed that day on Therum when she was rescued by Commander Shepard. She’d followed him willingly to hell and back to destroy Sovereign, and had been devastated when he’d been killed... but she wasn’t altogether surprised to see him walk into her office on Ilium after two years. In a short time, her mourning over the loss of Shepard, and of her friend Feron, turned into utter joy as the two of them were returned to her. Shepard had proved he was stubborn, that a little thing like death couldn’t stop him.
Her musings over, she looked around, gasping slightly in shock. Her pistol was drawn as soon as she realized she wasn’t on the base anymore, that Feron and the VI had gone. Instead she was... well, she didn’t know where she was. She’d never seen anything like it, and her long unused archaeologist skills kicked in as she looked around. It looked in perfect order, no signs of ruination. Human, she decided. The buildings reminded her of those that Kaidan had described when he talked about his parent’s place on Earth, a lifetime ago on board the Normandy. She’d just never thought that she would see anything like that. The wary information broker in her reminded her that she only had a limited supply of thermal clips, that the rest were stored around the Shadow Broker’s ship, ready for when she needed them. She holstered her pistol, looking around, trying to figure out how she’d got here, and most importantly how to get back.
