Effy never really considered herself to be a person who was extremely reliant on technology. Sure, she loved her cell phone, and she went on the internet sometimes, but she'd always thought she could live without them if she had to. The thing she couldn't live without? Air conditioning. She didn't do well with heat. At all. Because, well, she rarely ever dealt with it in Bristol.
When the heat in her room became so bad that she couldn't even bear just lying there anymore, she finally decided to make a quick escape out to the beach. Stripping down to just enough to pass for public decency, she laid out on the sand, trying to be happy with the fact that at least the wind was blowing out here. And then her messenger buzzed.
Wait, what? She picked it up. Pressed the button. It lit up. Hallelujah. The power was back. Effy grinned, and it grew and grew until she was so excited she ran to take a celebratory leap into the water, letting out an excited squeal as she did so.
[Because I was sadly MIA for the plot this weekend... join in the post-blackout celebration? =D]
