Book had spent his morning quietly praying at the church, and had just returned to his rooms when he heard the knock on the door. The slight frown at the unknown disturbance changed to a bright smile the second he saw Zoe, with little Maya in her arms. "Well, who's this?" he said, stepping back to let them in. Zoe smiles, and realizes that not only is Maya seeing him for the first time, she's seeing him for the first time. She'd last laid him to rest, and for just a second her smile wavers as she just looks him over for a second. Same Book she's always known. But she shakes it off and presents Maya to him.

She's wearing a long sleeved onesie because it's not quite warm yet, but her feet are bare as they're just in the hotel.

"This is Maya Abetzie. Maya, this is the most patient man in the 'verse, Book."

"Oh, I'm not sure about that," Book said with a smile, before looking more closely at Maya. "She's beautiful, Zoe. She looks just like you. Will you look at that hair?"

Of course, Book's own hair was wild as well, so he knew exactly what that was like. "I was just going to make some tea. Would you like some?"

"Love some," she says. "And once you get it on, you can hold her. Seems wrong even Jayne's held her first," Zoe jokes.

"And she may look like me, but does she ever have Wash's sleeping habits," she says, shaking her head.
