Easter Mass - ota

Erica, in light of what she's been through and how she was helped by the church, has found it a little easier to slip back into the Catholic traditions of her roots. She hasn't attended mass every Sunday, but some Saturday evenings, and in the mornings before work if she has time. She hasn't worked out yet how she feels about God and the Vs, but ( Read more... )

Sam, wearing his arch-episcopal regalia for the solemn occasion, stood at the main door greeting everyone who'd come to mass with indefatigable good spirits though there were circles under his eyes. Some merely stepped out the side door, others merely shook his hand in passing, but others stopped to exchange a few words with the handshake, some exchanged hugs.

Erica is one who stops to shake Sam's hand and hug him "Happy Easter, Father," she says with a small smile.

Sam's hug is warm and solid, and his smile is bright.

"Happy Easter to you, my child. You're looking as blooming as the garden, I must say."

"And you're looking tired. But now Lent is over and there are...fifty days of Easter celebration if I remember correctly," Erica smiles, and she can't help but hug him again, even as people behind her shift and want to get by.
