even dead girls need birthday plans [ota]

Jo was in a relatively good mood despite the fact that she was now a year older.  She wasn't quite sure if she still got to celebrate birthdays after dying but it seemed stupid to ignore the day that she had been born.  Not that she had any real idea what it was that she wanted to do today but she figured she should at least do something ( Read more... )

Alistair wouldn't have known it was Jo's birthday if Ramona hadn't told him. And truthfully, even after he found out, he wasn't really sure at all what to get her. He finally just settled on the bag she'd picked out the day he first met her and apparently forgotten about--he figured it'd make for a nice enough gift, especially after he'd discovered that these weren't ordinary bags.

Of course when he went by her room, neither she nor her roommate were there, so he sent her a message on the little thingy. Happy birthday--where are you?

When her messenger buzzed, she paused to grab her phone. Smiling at the message, she set her smoothie on a nearby table so that she could shoot a message back to him. Just wandering in the streets. Where are you?

Unsure of what else to do, Alistair ended up standing outside of her room for at least a few minutes while he toyed with his messenger thingy, half-hoping she'd get back to him quickly or one of them would come home. When the thingy buzzed cheerfully in his hand he nearly jumped, then smiled brightly to see it was indeed a message from Jo.

Looking for you! I have a gift for you.

Jo probably didn't realize the fact that she was kind of grinning like an idiot as she sat down on a bench and crossed her legs. Leaning back, she waited for him to message her back and then she laughed softly.

Ramona sold me out, didn't she? You didn't need to get my anything.

He knew he wasn't dead, but he sure as hell felt like he was. Heaven couldn't get much better ( ... )

Jo glanced over at the encouraging voice and then she chuckled as she turned back to eye the skirt that was on display. Skirts weren't normally her style but it helped that it was denim and it would look rather cute with the top that Ramona had gotten her. Plus she was pretty sure she could find someone who would appreciate seeing her in a skirt.

"It really is, isn't it?" She nodded, glancing back at him with a bright smile. There was something familiar about him, something that nagged at her consciousness, but she couldn't quite figure out what it was.

"Skirts aren't usually my style but I'm thinking of making an exception." She eyed the skirt again.

"Don't take this the wrong way, I'm a married man with kids of my own, but from here? You got the legs to pull it off." he offered as a compliment, laughing a little as he leaned against the wall of the store she was looking into, adding more pressure to his leg to try and ease the cramp. Finding that worked better than trying to work it out by hand, he kept it steady as he folded his arms comfortably.

"Bet you got yourself a nice boy that'd enjoy it, too."

"Well, it's pretty hard to take a compliment like that the wrong way." She chuckled, glancing down at her legs in consideration. She knew she had nice legs though, which made the idea of a skirt all the more tempting.

"I might know someone who would enjoy it." She admitted with a pleased little nod. "Of course, I work in a bar. So it could be good for tips too."

"You know they say it's bad luck to by your own gift on your birthday." A voice filled with humor spoke behind Jo where she was looking in the window.

"So you're telling me that they'd say I should talk my mom into buying something for me, then?" Jo smirked as she turned around to look at the older woman, clearly pleased to see her mother.

[Tsk tsk, whatever will we do with you? :p It's cool, I seem to miss things all the time. *kicks RL*]

"You think you can convince her to do that?" Ellen arched an eyebrow at Jo and crossed her arms. "She might be less prickly since it's your birthday."

"See? That was going to be my winning argument." She flashed her cutest smile, the same one that she had been working on since she was two or three years old.
