In one had was a white box from the bakery with a dozen doughnuts and one danish and in the other hand was a tray of two coffees. One was regular and the other was toffee and gingerbread - a combination which had even the woman at the cafe look at him oddly. Somehow, even though his hands were full, Peter was able to navigate through the college ( Read more... )

Olivia had noticed Walter's name missing from the directory when she'd got ready to type him a message. Her little address book that she had the people she messaged all the time in there was one short. Olivia had gone to Peter's room after making sure that Braeden was enjoying himself at the retrocade. When she didn't find him there she thought that she'd try Walter's lab since Olivia wasn't really sure when or where Walter had left.

The first thing that greeted her was Gene's lowly mooing and then she noticed the tray that held coffee. It wasn't until she was further in the room that she saw Peter with his back against the wall.

"Hey." She said softly. "I thought I'd find you here. You okay?"

Peter looked up when he heard Olivia's voice, though he had registered her entrance before that. He paused for a brief moment before nodding. "Yeah."

He glanced down at his sidekick again before putting it away in his pocket and pushing off the wall. "I should have known Walter went back home when I had a full night's sleep."

“You couldn’t have known.” She said with a slight smile and moved across the lab to stand closer to him. “He could have spent the night in the lab working on something.”

What Olivia said was true, but it didn't stop Peter from feeling like he had be slighted some how.

"I bet Walter is upset he didn't find a way home before the village did." His lips pressed with a somewhat wry, though a little sour, smile.

She was quiet for a moment and then said, “did you see the mirror that he’d been working on?” Olivia had to wonder if it was the village that sent him home or if he’d experimented long enough with the mirror that he was able to walk through. As he had when he took Peter.

He nodded. "Yeah. I even got to see Astrid on the other side of it. But Walter hadn't figured out a way to make it from a window to a door yet."

Peter thought about their conversation. "I was actually helping him on how to make the transition."

Peter let out a small breath that seemed almost sarcastic since, fat chance of helping him with that now, seeing as he was gone.

“That mirror really was amazing.” Olivia said with a small smile. “Other realities exist, the village has a lot of examples of that but to know that your father and Bell designed a mirror that could actually see into it, boggles my mind.” She paused a beat, “we could even be from different realities ourselves or we’re from another reality from Walter’s.” She turned her head to look at Peter, “literally speaking.”

Olivia thought that she should clarify that because that had been a perfect straight line for Peter to run with in regard to his father’s altered reality usually with psychedelic drugs.

When Peter saw Walter's mirror, he had thought about similar things after the fact. He knew that alternate realities meant people could be very similar or very different.

He looked at Olivia with a slightly playful smile. "Do you think I'm from a different reality than you, then?"

(ooc: Ugh, sorry. First week back to teacher's college was a time suck!)

It was only years of experience that Olivia didn't show a reaction to the playful question. Inside, however, was a different story all together. She remembered the same conversation that she'd had with Walter and the internal debate she'd had.

Was this the time? The place?

"Could be." She hedged for a moment. "Would it matter if you were?"

ooc: Aww. School has a way of being a time suck. Stupid school but yay teacher's college!

"Depends." Peter was still more on the playful side, though a voice in his head was wondering why Olivia would continue the hypothetical. She wasn't usually into it that much.

"Am I the evil or good one?"

She looked at him not quite sure how to answer that. Olivia knew what he meant, good twin/evil twin but what happened to him wasn't black and white.

"Neither." Olivia answered with a faint smile. "Just another person from a different reality." Then before she lost her nerve she continued, "did Walter ever tell you one of things that I could do as a kid in Jacksonville?"

Peter looked at Olivia with more intent now. Jacksonville wasn't exactly a happy topic, especially for Olivia, and Peter wasn't proud of what his father did there.

"Not really. He knew I didn't like hearing about it so he avoided it. Actually, I think he didn't like remembering it a lot as well."

But now Peter's curiosity was piqued. "Why? What could you do?"

"It seems I had the ability to notice when things were from the other side. There is this whitish glow around them and they sort of flicker." She glanced at Peter and saw what she usually did around him but thankfully it sort of came and went. It was never constant. Olivia suspected that it was when her emotions were high that it happened.

Peter's brow furrowed as he came to comprehend what Olivia was saying. She could identify things from the other side. It made sense considering his father and Bell wanted "warriors" to help with some sort of invasion.

"And can you? I mean, now that you're an adult?"

"Yeah I can." She said with a sad nod. "It works best when my emotions are really high, like I'm scared." Which Peter would understand was a lot because Olivia didn't get scared anymore. "But I can still see them."

Olivia paused, mentally debating the decision of this but it was a perfect opportunity.

"Peter. I know the timing of this is horrible and believe me I would have this conversation at any another time." She took a breath and new it was better to rip off the band-aid. "When my ability to see things from the other side helped save some lives we decided to go out for a drink to celebrate." Olivia looked at Peter, "I saw a glow around your face that I'd never seen before."

Peter hadn't really seen where the conversation had been heading until the very end. He felt something go tight inside his chest and he tried not to let too much of it show in his face when Olivia delivered the news. Slowly he worked through the implications in his head.

"So," Peter looked at Olivia unsure of even how to phrase it. "You're saying I'm from the other side."

His mind was reeling. Was Olivia right? Peter knew Olivia wouldn't tell him if she had any doubts.

"Are you sure it wasn't just something I was wearing?"
