Shelby had quit her job with Vocal Adrenaline. It hadn't been an easy choice, but she knew it was what she needed to do to pursue the life she wanted: but what sort of life did she want? The thirty-something woman knew she craved a life that could be compared to the classic American dream. A white picket fence, with at least one child playing on freshly mowed, green green grass, and maybe even a little puppy or kitten running in the yard.
Every part of her wanted to be a mother. It was so very hard not to take the easy road, not to reach out to Rachel. They were already alike in so many ways, after all. She knew the impact it could have, so she stopped herself. Shelby knew that she had to build a new life, not steal the one of another.
Shelby leaned against the wall of the outside of the building where the regional competition had been held. Closing her eyes, she smiled. Oh, she was happy that her team had won. She wanted to be fully happy though, not just career-wise. Vocal Adrenaline had been a pleasure to be involved with, but she'd never achieved her true goal. Now was the time to start working on that dream. But where to start?
Breathing deeply, she opened her eyes. The time of day, the scenery around her, had changed completely. It looked like early afternoon, and she stood beside an unknown building. She took a couple of steps away from it, eyebrow furrowing in confusion. Making her way toward the front of the building, she read the words, "Haurvatat Preparatory School" on a sign at the front. She shook her head, mouth gaping open slightly. Where or what the hell was Haurvatat?
