Reunions - OTA (Tag River)

John had had enough. He'd been alone in the black of space. He'd spent years in prison. He'd been trapped on an uninhabited planet, but he'd never felt so lonely as he had during the past few months in the village. It was a purely self-inflicted isolation. He worked - mostly at the Sin, avoiding Robert as best he could because he couldn't stand ( Read more... )

River was in her room, sitting amidst an array of papers - all weather beaten and yellowed with age, trying to put them together in some sort of chronology before beginning the translation.

Normally she'd be doing it in her office at the museum but Daniel had been a little rabid about work lately and she'd wanted the luxury of a long exploration of the pages and knew the other archeologist would have it organized and translated by morning (he wouldn't go home) if she left it.

She picked up one and scanned the page before slipping it into series with the ones she'd already sorted.

John knocked on her door when he reached it. If she wasn't here, he'd go to the museum. If she wasn't there, he'd go to the cafe. If she wasn't there then he would come back to the hotel and wait outside her door, god damn it, because this had gone on long enough.

She wasn't expecting anyone, and Carolyn would just let herself in so the knock was unexpected. She set aside her papers and went to open the door, thinking idly that it had been a while since she'd seen Guy though he didn't often just show up.

It would be a pleasant surprise, but not as surprising as the face that greeted her when she opened the door, "John."

She was pleased to see him, but the confusion was evident.

"River," he said softly, "we need to talk." He needed to explain why it had been so long, but he also needed to know why she hadn't come looking for him.

I am dressed in my clothing from home, attired and equipped to go hunting. I have time enough to do that today because I need not go to the library until later.

I am very pleased for my timing, because I have not seen the man in front of me for too long.

"John." He is just coming home and I should not keep him, but I must at least say hello.

John turned at the sound of his name and gave Faramir a small smile. "Looking very snazzy, Faramir. Off to the hunt?"

Snazzy? That doesn't sound like an insult, even a joking one.

"Yes, actually. The grocery is not yet open, you see." I'm trying, but I doubt that worked very well.

"You are looking tired. Do you always work so late?" I've been to his place of business--his places of business. "I have missed seeing you."

"I've been...keeping to myself as of late," he said apologetically, "know I haven't been around. Missed seeing you too, though."
