John had had enough. He'd been alone in the black of space. He'd spent years in prison. He'd been trapped on an uninhabited planet, but he'd never felt so lonely as he had during the past few months in the village. It was a purely self-inflicted isolation. He worked - mostly at the Sin, avoiding Robert as best he could because he couldn't stand seeing the worry in the man's eyes. He'd kept himself away from Faramir if only because the ranger would get him to talk and John was afraid of what he would say.
And worst of all, he hadn't seen River in so long he was actually finding it difficult to remember the sound of her voice. Enough was enough. So Jack had fucked with his head again. So he'd wanted to die for a few weeks - only kept alive through Desire's attentions. It was all absurd and even if the last time he'd tried to contact River, she'd avoided him, it wouldn't stop him a second time.
He walked with purpose from the Sin to the hotel - tired after working all night, but determined.
