Off to see the doctor, the wonderful doctor of...oh screw it (gentle tag Tyr if he's curious)

Margaret had made an appointment with the newest doctor on staff at the clinic, and timed her lunch break to coincide with it. She had asked Betty to meet her there, but hadn't really told her why. She tried very hard to pretend she was NOT anxious, those were NOT butterflies in her stomach, and as a result was a little more career Army in manner ( Read more... )

Betty had no idea why in the world Margaret wanted her to come to the clinic during her lunch break, but if her friend needed her, she needed her, and that was all Betty needed to know. Making her way inside, her eyes swept the room until she saw her. "Hey, Margaret," she said as she sat down beside her. "Are you finally going to tell me what's going on are you going to tell me when I'm on the operating table that you need a kidney?"

She was kidding, but she'd do it.

Margaret laughed, and then suddenly, turned and hugged her.

"I just wanted you to be with me when I got the news, one way or the other. I think I might be expecting."

Betty hugged her back and then gasped. "O hmy God, Margaret!" she practically yelled in excitement before lowing her voice considerably. "You're serious? You're serious! How long until you can go in and find out?" she asked.

"That's my chart in the door. As soon as she is finished with her current patient, I am next." Margaret squeezed Betty's hand, and took a deep breath.

Margaret was in the clinic for reasons other than work and Tyr knew it. He was subtle enough to make his way from where he worked to where she was.

Why was she nervous? He was fairly certain of the outcome of this and quite pleased. Maybe a solid, steady presence would return the woman to her usual manner--calm and in control. He had a very small smile on his lips as he approached.

"Margaret, I understand you're on a fact-finding mission."

Margaret's face didn't exactly light up when she saw Tyr, it was more of a gentle warming.

"Yes," and his presence did settle her. the fidgeting stopped and she stood straighter."I have reason to suspect that I am pregnant."

"I have reason to believe that you're right." It was still early, but she would start to smell different. Considering the timing of their couplings, and the number of times, if Margaret wasn't pregnant, Tyr was going to be seeing a doctor for himself. He could obviously breed, and he'd be annoyed with himself if he hadn't managed it.

"They say the husband is always the last to know." That was a joke. Really.

"Only the stupid ones, and while your strongest attibutes are physical, you are definitely not stupid. Actually in this case, the boss will be the last to know." She grinned a little.

"There is another thing that Dr. Burke suspects, and we will look into with this appointment -- how would you feel about twins?"
