Practicing [ota]

He'd found the training remote droid in his room this morning and could barely contain his glee. Were Jedi allowed to be giddy? Perhaps strong emotions like that weren't preferable, but at the moment Obi-wan didn't care. Because the droid meant he could practice his saber training ( Read more... )

Penny was jogging through the park when she spotted the familiar young man holding a familiar-looking object. Holy crap on a cracker, that was a legit lightsaber! Of course, Penny knew that Obi-wan was a legit Jedi, so it stood to reason that he'd have a lightsaber. She approached him slowly, watching in interest. She didn't want to interrupt, so she would wait for him to pause and notice her before she spoke to him.

It took about another five minutes before Obi-wan stopped to take a break, having already been at it for about an hour. Shutting the droid off with a flick of his wrist, he turned the lightsaber off, turning to look at the presence he could feel before ever even taking off the blindfold.

Smiling, he slipped it off, "Hello, Penny."

Penny smiled widely in return.

"Hi Obi-wan. Whatcha doing?"

"Practicing." he lifted his lightsaber and shrugged, "What are you doing?"

"I was jogging, but your lightsaber distracted me."

She gave him a wink to show she wasn't worried about being distracted.

"It looked like you were doing well."

He smiled, when she winked, finding himself flushing a bit although he didn't really know why.

"Thanks. I've, uh, been trying to get better."

Penny was charmed by his blush. This young man was absolutely adorable.

"You must be very dedicated to practice here on your own."

At thirteen, Obi-wan was just starting to notice girls-- although as a Jedi isolated from those sorts of relationships, it wasn't something he was at all prepared to deal with or understand.

"I am. Or I try to be. I want my Master to be proud of me." And not to change his mind about training him.

It was on the tip of Penny's tongue to tell Obi-wan Do or do not. There is no try. However, looking into his earnest face, she couldn't do it. What was a movie to her was very real to Obi-wan, and Penny had huge respect for that. Instead, she patted his shoulder.

"Any Master would be proud to have you as an apprentice, I would think."

If she'd said that, Obi-wan would have been very confused. Because it was certainly something Yoda had said frequently at the temple. It would lead to many questions that would have to be asked.

He smiled, pleased she thought so, "Thanks. I hope he's proud. I nearly wasn't even chosen as a padawan to any Master."

He'd nearly had to be a farmer on some outer rim planet. A fate that would have devastated him.

She shook her head, looking at him fondly. She was amazed at how attached she'd gotten to this kid, barely a teenager, in just the two times she'd spoken with him. It was obvious how special he was.

"I can't imagine that. It seems clear to me that you are destined for great things."

He was finding himself growing rather fond of Penny too, so he grinned at her praise. Maybe she wasn't a Jedi, so she couldn't sense his future like Master Yoda might be able to, it still meant a lot.

"Thanks, Penny. I hope you're right... and that those great things are also good things."

Because something could be great or influential but still be awful tings.

She felt a pang at the vague thought of what she knew of Obi-wan's future, but she forced a smile, because she genuinely liked Obi-wan and she wanted to make him happy.

"I'm sure they will be, Obi-wan. It's the kind of person you are."

Still smiling, Obi-wan nodded, "I appreciate that you think so."

She patted Obi-wan on the shoulder, then gestured to his practice droid.

"I didn't mean to interrupt your practice. I'll let you get back to it, and I'll see you soon?"

He looked at the droid, nodding again, running a hand through his hair, "Um... yeah-- I should get back to that. And yes, hopefully I'll be seeing you."
