The Holiday Ball ((Gathering Post))

All in all, the holiday ball comes together beautifully. There's a huge Christmas tree that Laura has nothing to do with - the village has a way of making things appear, and honestly, she's glad she didn't have to decorate it. There is a group of tables on one side of the large ballroom, decorated with deep red and gold and servers waiting around

Spencer arrived wearing a tux with Sarah on his arm. He couldn't have been more proud to have such a beautiful, intelligent, kind woman by his side. For the first time he was really getting to show her off publicly.

His eyes widened at the sight of the ballroom all decorated with seasonal trimmings. He had never been to a party this fancy before.

"This kind of puts the FBI Christmas party to shame," he said, smiling and turning to Sarah. "Do you.. um.. want anything to drink or eat?"

[Everyone else catch him when he's off getting food or drink.]

At first Yuri didn't recognize the guy in the tux, but then she figured it out and smiled, walking over in her vintage dress with a big smile on her face.

"Hey there. You must have a fairly serious date tonight." It was a light, teasing sort of tone that would normally be for someone she knew better. You had to take things as they were in the village.

Like the fact that she hadn't entirely come alone to the party, but Mughi had deserted her and gone in search of food (probably).

Spencer smiled sheepishly at the blue-haired woman next to him.

"H-Hey.. yeah, my girlfriend Sarah..."

It almost had to be serious, when the guy wore a tux.

"Which one is she?" Yuri asked. There were so many varied dresses and most of them would work with a man in a tux. Women were generally more enthused about this sort of party than men were. "I don't know anyone named Sarah here."

Spencer pointed across the crowded party to a woman with long wavy brown hair.

"She's right there..."

Yuri looked.

"Hey, wow. And that dress is gorgeous." She gave Spencer a wink. "I'm guessing she's really smart, too. From what little I know you don't seem the type to go for just pretty."

Yuri was kind of amazed because she didn't recall seeing the woman Sarah at all before. In such a small village?

"Is she an agent too?"

Spencer smiled proudly.

"She's very smart, yes, though her intelligence is different than mine."

Personally, he liked that. She could still understand when he talked science or statistics, but she had vast knowledge on art and literature. She certainly knew more than him when it came to culinary arts.

"No.. back home she worked at an auction house for antiques. Here she runs Starlings, the large restaurant by the marina."

"I totally love antiques." Well, her dress, duh.

"So you complement each other with your areas of knowledge." Yuri nodded in approval. "Does she cook there or just manage it?"

Was he not as skinny as before? Dating a restauranteur would help with that.

"Yes, she cooks. She's an excellent cook."

And indeed he was filling out his clothing a bit more than he used to.

"I'm going to have to try that restaurant soon." If she could find someone to go with--the cat didn't count.

"I should go. No need to talk to me when you've got your Sarah." Yuri thought Spencer was a kind of cute nerd but there was obviously something there. Too late. "And don't let Mughi scam you out of any food. He'll have plenty."

"Oh."

Spencer wasn't sure why having Sarah meant that he didn't need to talk to her.

"I-I'll make sure I don't give him any."

He didn't see why, which made him a nerd. Yuri wasn't the sort of girl to monopolize a guy who already had a date. She didn't know Sarah and didn't want it taken the wrong way.

Some people could be really jealous and unreasonable.

"He'll probably be doing most of his mooching from ladies, but you never know." Equal opportunity cat. "I'll see you around."

"See you, Yuri..."

Spencer was still confused, but he watched her disappear into the crowd.

"I would love something to drink." Sarah smiled at Spencer. It had been a while since she'd dressed so elegantly and it felt nice. "And I'm sure the FBI Christmas party had its own charm."

"Yeah, well, that party usually ends with Rossi telling intoxicated stories about his wayward youth." Amusing, but very different from this. "I'll be right back."

He returned a few moments later with two flutes of champagne and handed one to her.

"You look so beautiful tonight, Sarah."

She looked beautiful every night, but she had outdone herself this evening.

Sarah raised her flute and lightly clinked it against to his. "Thank you and you look very handsome tonight, too." She took a sip enjoying the flavor of it. "Does Rossi have many stories of his youth?" Her lips curved into a smile.
