Wordless - Jongkey Drabble

Jan 07, 2011 00:24

Title: Wordless
Rating: PG
Genre: Angst
Characters: Jonghyun and Key.
A/N: 416 w. I wrote this for rewindnext  on a post in origamifirefly . I thought it was decent enough for me to post it here (lol). This drabble is based on a French poem, "Dejeuner du Matin" by Jacques Prevert (English translation) Of course I revised it a little to add my own twist lol.

No one uttered a word between the two of them. The sound of the pouring rain outside the cafe and the low hushed tones coming from the cafe-goers were the only visible sounds around them. Kibum silently observed Jonghyun from the other side of the table they both shared. Jonghyun delicately poured the steaming hot coffee followed by a small amount fresh milk in the small white cup provided to them . Kibum waited for him to speak up- even just a word, a syllable even. Nothing. It broke Kibum's heart. He was aware that it was his own fault, but at least he deserved a word from Jonghyung, right? But the latter thought otherwise as he plopped two cubes of sugar in his cup of coffee without a peep.

Kibum tried to muster all his courage to speak up, but his voice box would not obey what his brain commands it to do. Feeling helpless, he just focused on Jonghyun sipping his own drink. Kibum noticed that Jonghyun avoided his gaze. He couldn't and wouldn't blame the latter for it is his fault in the first place. He was the one who betrayed him. He was the one who lied to him. He was the one who broke his heart, with thrice the pain as he is feeling right now.

He wondered why Jonghyun agreed to meet him in the first place. Kibum tried to search for answers as he gravely laid his eyes at Jonghyun lighting a cigarette and blowing a couple of smoke rings. He did not know when Jonghyun started smoking, and it bothered him to watch the latter waste away his life with the stick of death. Their eyes eventually caught each others gaze. A small hope sparked inside Kibum, but it died too soon when Jonghyun stood up, and picked up his coat and umbrella - the cigarette still tucked nicely between his lips. Even without a word, Kibum clearly saw the message in Jonghyun's glare:

'Goodbye, Kibum.'

Kibum panicked, he did not know what to do. He unknowingly stretched out his hand towards the retreating figure of Jonghyun. Instead of shouting the latter's name in order to stop him from leaving; Kibum choked, followed by a sob. Soon before Kibum could ever stop himself, tears trickled endlessly down his cheeks. Giving up, Kibum buried his face in his hands and wept as silently as he could for he knew there was no turning back - not this time.

End.
