[For Glitch] - Dated Oct 7th

Oct 10, 2008 21:38

Cain had waited all of thirty minutes after the debacle at breakfast before taking food back to his and Glitch's room and setting it heavily down on the nearest table, picking up a pillow from the floor and pelting it at the headboard with the kind of force a man might use on an enemy and Zero wasn't even anywhere around ( Read more... )

Glitch stared at Cain for a moment, trying to figure out why exactly Cain was asking him to remind him of something, but finally let out a light sigh, immediately picking an apple up.

"Your urge to protect people. That and the snowball effect when more soldiers like George showed up." He shrugged, still not sure what this was all about. "Why?"

Cain turned to make sure that their door was bolted and locked and he made his way over on the bed, shuffling and rubbing at his eyes. "Because I'm getting real sick," he half-growled, "of always tripping over some soldier or an animal or having to deal with a dozen people or more at breakfast."

"Oh." Glitch tugged him down onto the bed, smiling. "Well. We could always put in gates to keep the animals out. If we make them tall enough it could keep out people, too."

Cain couldn't help the wry laugh that came of him at the comment because trust Glitch to break his mood just like that with a single comment. He sighed and went with the tug, arranging himself close as he could. "It's my house," he said with a quiet growl. "And instead I sit there at breakfast like it's a gods-damned greek play and I have to sit there and play father to a bunch of kids?"

"You are the only actual father here," Glitch pointed out, just because he felt like he was supposed to. He shrugged. "Throw them out for a couple days. Remind them to appreciate what you give them."

Cain scoffed a small laugh, peering up at Glitch from where he was lying. "Do not tempt me," was all he said simply. "And I mean it, Glitch," he said heavily. "I went from, well...you know what I went from to this and I know you want me to socialize, but this is too much."

"I know you mean it," Glitch said softly. "Just take a break, then. I do it sometimes when...well. If you need to get some room to breathe, just go."

He took a bite out of the apple. "Really, I'm kind of impressed you can deal with this house at all." Gods knew Glitch couldn't sometimes.

Cain just grimaced and tried to relax as best as he could, but it wasn't about to come easily and he shifted, head still in Glitch's lap. "I can't just kick them out of their homes," he muttered, as much as he really wanted to about then. "I just don't see how this is any kind of fair," he snapped. "When Jeb is still anywhere but here and the place is roaming with animals and I feel like I'm a slave to all of them, and it's like I'm raising toddlers who don't know tolerance yet."

Glitch smiled, swallowing his apple and leaning over to look Cain straight in the eye. "It all gets better," he said. "DG showed up. Azkadellia showed up. Jeb's just taking his time."

He put a hand on the top of Cain's head. "They'll learn eventually. You don't have to jump for them when they ask, though. They act like they're toddlers, but they're all adults." Glitch paused. "Well, legally at least."

Cain sighed heavily, turning tired eyes up to Glitch. "And the animal thing is getting out of hand," he griped with a heavy amount of complaint in his voice. "Babe says he's getting a piglet? Joe's dog had pups, we have the cat and Wendy has her dog?"

"Then we make a No Pets Inside rule," Glitch said simply, tracing patterns into Cain's hair that probably had a meaning. He paused, mind shifting. "And why would you get a pig for a pet, anyway? That's just weird."

That was probably a very good idea, which meant that it was something he should have thought of and needed Glitch for. But hell, he wasn't about to complain over the hand in his hair. "Gods," he murmured. "Keep doing that, I'll stop complaining."

Glitch grinned at him, kept tracing the pattern into his hair. It was a date or something, maybe. "You don't have to stop complaining. It's better to complain now than explode later. In the...you know. Metaphorical exploding. Well, I wouldn't like it if you literally exploded either, but that's not the point." He paused, hand just scratching Cain's head.

Glitch shook his head and leaned down to press a light kiss to Cain's forehead, and then looked him in the eye. "Don't explode," he said curtly, as if it was a pressing concern.

"If I didn't explode saving the world, I won't explode now," Cain sighed with a heavy amount of content, the way a pet might when given the adequate love. "Guess I'll make a doghouse or something," he murmured, but the thought of doing more just to get his way rankled him slightly. "Or I could wait until everyone's done twitching about Joe and the Doc." And he still didn't see the big deal.

Glitch couldn't help the shudder that came with Doc, hand jerking away for a brief moment before it went back to twirling around in Cain's hair. He took a deep breath, reminded himself that Cain was talking about Eugene Roe and that everything was fine. "What are they twitching about?"

"They just came out to everything, sweetheart," Cain reminded him lightly. "I don't know if you recall when that happened for us, but it was a fairly stressful period of time, what with everyone suddenly seeing you in a different light."
