the ants.

the ants go marching one by one
but one stands on the side.
he stands on a hill and clears his throat -
this ant has nothing to hide.
he says, "day by day we follow each other
in a straight and orderly line
but we never question the direction we take,
we might as well be walking blind.
we refuse to question or stray from the group,
we're afraid to be different or strange,
and i'm afraid, fellow ants, that we've reached the point
that something has to change.
follow the leader is the game that we live
but where will we end up?
if we ever looked at the ant in front
we'd find he's as confused as us.
we keep ourselves busy, we follow routine
but we never ask, 'what for?'
if we used the freedom to think for ourselves
we'd be more free than ever before."
by this time a group of ants had gathered
to hear what he had to say.
they began to clap - his message had stuck!
the ant had sparked a change.
so never believe that if you speak up
a difference can't be made,
we can learn a lot from the tiny ant
who got out of line that day.
