Schmoopette is learning words. Not like, specific words. Just, y'know, words. They're a new development. She practiced saying "down" while we walked down the stairs. Each stair she announced with a triumphant "DOWN!" It was not unlike when Homer Simpson rolls down the hill saying "D'OH!" DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN DOWN...
So, she was playing with the zipper on my hoodie after a diaper change (it was cool and breezy in Ye Olde Towne Of Beanes today) - which is normal. And then, she tugged at my sleeve and exclaimed "OFF!" I asked her, "You want me to take my sweater off?"
"OFF!"
And I told her that no, I wasn't going to take my sweater off.
And it was as if I had told her that the Red Sox would never win another world series again. For thirty seconds, the world ended. All hope ceased to be. Because I had the audacity to keep my shirt on.
Whenever I think my life is hard, I am reminded of just how hard it is to be two.
