All I remember about this show is that it terrified the living daylights out of me when I was a child. I wasn't even allowed to watch it, but ocasionally caught snatches of it when I came dowmstairs from bed, for the ubiquitous glass of water! - It's sci - fi, big metal tripods (Which I guess you'd worked out!) taking over the towns and killing people. Brrr!
I remember watching this only in passing, so I can't say how good it is or isn't. But, if you like books too, this show is based on The Tripods Trilogy by John Christopher--I read this years ago and enjoyed it very much.
Yeah, i read that in my magazine. It's a real shame. I should have said no to the DVD's because I know it's going to leave me hanging... but... FREE DVD's!
:) Glad you like it. You should edit and tell us the story about going on the radio for the obscure sci fi series! :) I've HEARD of the Tripods, because my brother was looking in the ABC shop window and was like 'hey isn't that what you like??' and I was like no, I like "Tripod" which are comedian musicians... but I have no idea what The Tripods are about. It doesn't have to be 'unheard of' to be talked about in this comm. :)
This comm isn't just for 'obscure' though, it can also be 'not mainstream'. And, you have to admit, Tripod is rather a geeky, non mainstream thing to enjoy.
Obscure... yes, but undeservedly so. Depends on your circles tho'; there's a fair few of us diehard fans out here. Not all as silly as me (see icon) but hey. Quite a few in Germany, Australia, UK...
It's probably best summed up as a post-apocalyptic resistance story - a (sometimes silly but overall interestingly crafted) adaptation of the John Christopher books if you're familiar with them. Beautifully shot.
The TV series is more reflective of Alick Rowe's vision than Christopher's for the most part, but that in itself makes for an interesting hybrid. You may be interested in the fansite I run BMB - don't be put off by the slashfic emphasis, I've also got galleries and (caveat: mildly spoilery) ep guides up there which'll give an overall idea of the series. (but yes it is ultra-ultra-ultra-slashy, so I'm hoping the wider release of s1 and the theoretically-upcoming-film *argh* might get a few more people writing *grin
( ... )
wow. thanks for the information, that's really awesome. I might check out the fan site after I've started the series, and do not be bothered, slash fiction is just not a problem. *wink* hehe. (I used to write it)
Thanks again for all the info, I really appreciate it.

The Tripods is (apparently) some crazy sci-fi show that everyone is (obviously) talking about.
