With the blessing of
longlongwaytogo, I'm reposting a plea for news of a fandom.
There's this Canadian series of books called "The Chronicles of Faerie" by one O.R. Melling. It was the series that defined my freakin' childhood, and I've yet in all my wanderings been able to find anything outside one or two pieces of fanart...one of which was drawn by my good friend that I originally forced to read them.
So here's the deal. The series surrounds young women and their interactions with Faerie -- four books long.
Book 1 is called "The Hunter's Moon". It's about a girl named Gwen whose cousin is kidnapped by the faeries, and she sets off on a journey of self-discovery and whatnot across Ireland in her attempt to outfox the fae.
Book 2 is called "The Summer King". It's about a girl named Laurel who is dealing with her twin sisters' death and ends up having to finish the mission that her sister started for the faerie kingdom. The process here involves her colluding with Ian, the token mysterious guy that she both admires and is irritated by. (Their relationship is a piece of AWESOME. I love them.)
Book 3 is called "The Lightbearer's Daughter", and in it a little girl named Dana, who's about 12, ends up 'questing' across Ireland with the help of Faerie behind her in order to find out the truth about her mother...who dissapeared under mysterious circumstances when she was still a baby.
Book 4 is called "The Book Of Dreams", and it too follows Dana. She's older now, and living in Canada, and is horrified to discover her link to the Faerie world is destroyed. She has to quest again in her new country and discovers that there's magic in Canada as well. It's in this novels that all the characters from the previous novels and their stories all come together -- while there's overlap that's evident throughout (Laurel runs in to some of Gwen's friends, for example), this is where it's all woven together.
If you know where the fandom is at, please share.
If you don't, howzabout we form it?
