Gabriella on the other hand wasn't sure if he would answer or not. Some people screened them, herself included, where if she didn't know the number she would let it go to her voice mail first, just in case it was someone breathing heavily down the receiver or something of the sort. She bit her lip when she heard him speak, but she had already gone through how this would go in her head. "H-hi, Eli. It's Gabriella. Uhm. Gabriella Gray."
She didn't even really need to say her name, he could tell by the sound of her voice who it was. Her name only confirmed what he already knew, that Gabriella was on the other end of that line. He wanted to hang up now. He wished he had a corded phone that he could slam into a cradle somewhere in a glorious gesture of anger. But sadly, iPhones didn't work well for that. So he did the next best thing.
"What do you want." The response fought with another he had inside his head that wanted to know if she was okay, if something had happened. The anger he felt though out weighed anything else.
Sorry for the long wait omg my iPod died at work today.headofapinNovember 22 2011, 01:21:36 UTC
No, iPhones didn't, and she was sort of thankful for that. It would hurt a lot more if he did just slam the phone down on her. She wanted to at least hear his voice, just once, even if it was him saying good bye forever.
"I..." She hesitated for a moment as she bit her lip. "I just wanted to hear your voice." Honesty is best, right? She swallowed. "I wanted to see how you are. It's been...a while."
Omg why didn't you charge it ;))works_two_jobsNovember 22 2011, 01:49:04 UTC
He was very quiet, very quiet. He really just wanted to stop right here and now. What she said shocked him a little and he was floored. "W-Why now? Gabs... It's been months..."
He had a million questions he wanted to ask. He needed too... But nothing seemed to to really come out. She left him, she had left him! He'd more or less been left sitting waiting around for her. Night after night, he'd asked everyone. No one had known, she'd just... Disappeared.
Because I'm a stupidhead! I didn't realise playing DragonVale had sucked so much battery. :(headofapinNovember 22 2011, 01:58:09 UTC
She thought for a moment that he had hung up on her, but when there was no dial tone that appeared she knew he hadn't, though he may have left the phone somewhere so she was talking to no one. But then he spoke, and a tiny, very tiny smile appeared on her face. Two minutes was more than she thought she would get from him. "I know, Eli. It's...I've been...I've been finding myself." She frowned to herself. "And I'm sorry. I truly am."
She got up and walked over to the window of her bedroom, the one she'd had since she was a little girl, and sat on the top of the chest her father had gotten for her to put her things in when she was young. The Beast jumped into her lap at that point, and she ran her fingers through his fur. "How have you been?"
Ha! My iPhone has been doing that like woah lately!works_two_jobsNovember 22 2011, 02:27:24 UTC
It all seemed like a terrible joke. How had he been? Finding herself? Really? He felt like the butt of some cosmic joke about how he was an idiot for hanging onto anything Gabriella had said. He was sure finding herself was some euphemism for going out and boinking Julian. He felt himself shake and he had to sit down. His eyes darted around his apartment. It hadn't changed much. It was still all glass and cool lights and dark colors.
He hadn't done anything since she'd left. His life had become work and sleep. There was nothing to do. He felt angry, and sick, and it prevented him from speaking. He bit his tongue with what he wanted to say an instead forced something entirely different out. "Fine." It was curt, clear from the tone that he was anything but. "You're... okay I assume? What about... you know?"
It's such a fun game D:headofapinNovember 22 2011, 02:33:46 UTC
Had he said that to her face she probably would have slapped him across his. Boinking Julian? Who did he think she was? Though she supposed she had betrayed him in an awful way, so ill thoughts weren't shocking. But it would still hurt.
"Ah." Fine. Well there was a lie if she had ever heard one. She knew that Fine well. She had said it herself many, many times. However, she wasn't going to point out that she knew that fine didn't mean fine. "I'm...okay." She was good? She was, she'd been happy even, but she wasn't sure if she should say that. Instead she hesitated for a moment, before deciding to just talk. If he tried to cut her off she would talk over him, and if he hung up...well at least she'd tried. "I've been in France. Did you get my post cards? I hope you did. I've been tutoring English to French children there, and it's been...interesting. Nice." She paused for a moment and licked her lips. "It's been safe."
I don't really play games on my phone, except words with friends and uno. D:works_two_jobsNovember 22 2011, 02:40:55 UTC
Well, given what was going on just before she disappeared. It was one of the obvious choices to explain why she had up and left when he thought they'd been on such good grounds. He wasn't sure though if 'hanging around in france' was a better or worse thing to discover that she'd been doing. Especially since he had bought her tickets to Paris, with a fancy hotel included, that had since been wasted.
"I haven't been getting any post cards. I moved. I told you I wouldn't be able to stay in by building because it was being sold before you left." He used left, specifically. Because it was quite clear that's what she did. "I'm glad you're safe though." All the irritation and anger that was bubbling inside him left for a moment. He was glad she was safe, glad she hadn't been hurt, or attacked, or any of that. It might have been brief but it was genuine.
You should play it. You just poke things. :o headofapinNovember 22 2011, 02:44:44 UTC
But it wasn't what had happened. After she thought about it she would probably apologize for the slap saying the comment was slightly justified, but still. No, it probably wasn't, but it was the truth. She couldn't give him much more than that.
"Oh." She hadn't remembered that. She knew he had mentioned probably moving, but she had hoped he would have found a way. "Well. If you go to your old address they probably have around thirty post cards addressed to you." She smiled briefly. "I'm sorry I never called..."
I'll have to look into it. When my phone stops being a homo about my 3G network.works_two_jobsNovember 22 2011, 02:50:05 UTC
"Calling would have been better, obviously you know my number." The statement had a bit of an edge to it, of course. The genuine feeling of relief that she was okay was replaced once more by the anger that she would do something like this without so much as a peep.
"Why did you call me?" She had said that she had wanted to hear his voice, which was fine. But why now? Why months later?
"Of course I do. I memorized it from texting it so much." Back when they were together that was, because she did. A lot. Just random texts. Occasionally, often, pictures of cats.
"I called..." She paused, because he had already asked that, and she had already answered, but here it was again. "I called because I've missed you. And I wanted to apologize."
Then they all stopped though, and there was nothing. nothing at all to suggest she was dead or alive. It's a terrible feeling when that happens, especially when they have the sort of feelings that Eli had... still has really, not that he'd ever say so now, for another person.
"To be honest Gabriella, there's no sorry you could give me good enough for what you did." It hurt him to say that, but right now? It felt completely and wholly true. "You left, without a word, after everything I did to try and make myself... I changed, in a million different ways. I did everything Gabriella to make myself the man you wanted. Then you just, you just left. Like none of it mattered!" He was this close to crying, but he didn't want too. He'd dealt with this the strong and silent way up until now, and he planned to do it now. To keep everything inside. Because it was just better that way, to show and feel nothing. "I've missed you too. But you left me Gabriella. With no rhyme or reason."
