Yesterday, Billie Joe announced that he would playing the role of St. Jimmy in the American Idiot Musical on Broadway in New York City for one week only, this week. Immediately I thought, 'Man, how great would it be to see THAT!' Then I got kind of upset knowing I wouldn't be able to. 'Well, why not?' I continued thinking, 'Yeah, it's short notice, but my mom and I have been wanting to go to New York... specifically in the fall...'
I've been wanting to see the musical (of course!) since I first heard about it... I guess a year ago. I mean, 'American Idiot' pretty much defined my high school years. I can still listen to it, 6 years later, and have it feel exactly how it felt when I first listened to it at age 14. Anyway, I figured- how perfect would it be to get the show for the first time while Billie Joe is actually starring in it?! Worked a little magic on my mom... and after randomly passing by the transportation we were thinking of taking to get us there (it's a bus... we had NEVER seen one driving around before!)... we decided that seeing that, and the fact that my GD mood has been so random, it would be a great time to go see the show.
Nothing too special. I mean, I didn't win tickets, I didn't convince my mom to spend all this money taking a flight or anything. Nope. We're taking a bus. Going for the day. But bottom line is... I am so freaking excited! Number one, I've been wanting to see the musical for a year. Number two, 'American Idiot' is one of my all-time favorite records and represents basically my teenage years. Number three, I've never even been to New York City before! And what better time to celebrate/embrace all these things than when BILLIE JOE FREAKING ARMSTRONG is going to be in the play for one week only?!
I'm so freaking excited I can't even begin to think about how stressed out I'm going to be when I realize I have two research papers due next week! I keep telling myself I need to buckle down now and get them done... but I'm so enamored I can't even concentrate!
