Happy Maternal Unit Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all my LJ moms.  It's like the Peace Corps:  the toughest job you'll ever love.  It makes you proud, humble, crazy, frustrated, scared, and full of joy...and that can be in the first hour of any given day.  I am blessed with the coolest child on the planet, and I am humbled ( and a bit surprised) that God chose me to mother her.  I can only hope I am doing that job justice.

I have spoken about my mom here before.  You all know that she lost her parents before age 27, took care of her ailing father, took care of her slightly retarded brother (my dear Uncle Ray), raised 2 kids, took care of 2 dying relatives (Uncle Ray and my Aunt Jenny), had a heart valve and hip replacement (not at the same time, thank goodness), and kept right on marching on.  She is almost 81 now and sharp as a tack.  Her back is bent from arthritis, and she is in almost constant pain, but her only worry is still how her kids are doing.  I admit that there are days when her extreme organization and need to tell everyone what to do nearly kill me, but I respect and love that woman more than I can say.  Happy Mother's Day, Mom.

Also Happy Mother's Day to my MIL Emily.  She is the exception to everything you've every heard about mothers-in-law.  Hope you have a great day, Emily!  And also my SIL Ellen!!!
