"Mr. Spencer."
"Mr. Jones!" Shawn beamed, shook the outstretched hand and remembered why he loathed this guy so much. It wasn't the IRS part after all. It was the fact that Jones was a hairless little monkey with a snake's face and way too perfect teeth. What snake had perfect teeth these days?
He sat down and took a quick look around. The office was ugly with boredom. Files, photographs, a woman and a little kid, some notes on a piece of paper, a letter...
Jones cleared his throat and broke his concentration. "I am sorry that this meeting is on short notice but I'm sure you realize the importance of your situation."
"Of course. Is there something wrong?"
Jones opened a file and looked inside without reading a word, closed it, looked up at Shawn and folded his hands in front of his body. "I'm afraid there is. Recently some information has fallen into my hands that your husband, Mr. Burton Guster, has been married to a certain Mira Gaffney. If all my documents are correct, and I hope you can bring some light into this, while already being married to you."
Damn.
"Now how, Mr. Spencer, is that possible?"
Shawn thought for a second, his mind racing at the speed of light, before he settled back in the uncomfortable chair and sighed. "Listen, this... I know you have to look into every detail but this has actually been a very dark and dirty stain on our marriage. Sometimes my husband is a man of rash decisions."
"Two marriages is your idea of a rash decision?"
"Please, let us not be hostile. He was young. We were young and those times were... troublesome for the both of us. He made a mistake and the chapel he used to make it messed up. I think he was trying to make me jealous at the time. But what can I say? This... persistence. It's one of the reasons I love him so very much!" Shawn leaned forward, regarding the man with a pleading look. "It took quite some time to work this out, though. And a lot of full body massages."
"I am quite certain it did. So what is your take on marriage, Mr. Spencer?"
Shawn beamed at him. "Why, forgiveness, Mr. Jones. I am a very forgiving person. Are you?"
Jones didn't answer.
"Well, you should hope your wife is when she finds out about that blonde."
Jones stared at him. "Get the hell out."
