"The Americans and the Europeans say to Hamas: either you have weapons or you enter the legislative council. We say weapons and the legislative council. There is no contradiction between the two. "
ISMAIL HANIYA, a Hamas candidate in the Palestinian elections.
If you're wondering why this is on my LJ, I just found it fascinating. For over 5 years now, I have thought that the conflict in Israel and Palestine was one of the most ridiculous and miserable matters facing the world. The level of hypocrisy that has built up is almost unprecedented, particularly from the Israeli side. In all honesty, I just wish that the warmongers on both sides of the border could simply be exiled to some abandoned portion of the globe -the Australian desert, perhaps- where they could remain ensnared in this endless cultural battle, giving free reign to their savage hearts, but without the neccessity of civilian involvement. I don't know, Kellen will no doubt say that I'm a hopeless idealist, and John will probably call me a commie (again), so I'll shut up now.
