Summary: It is said that...sometimes the worst idea in the world is the best option you've got. Draco has no other alternative. It's been ten years since the war and he's flat broke. He only has one choice, and there's only one man that can help him.
Author’s Notes: The plot is adapted from an original m/m fictional story titled Adorned, however, I have changed it drastically to fit into the Harry Potter universe. (…)Also, if you know anything about Adorned, please know, that the ending is totally different, and so is a lot of the characterization of all the side-characters.) I basically took the idea of a tattoo artist and a down and out man who had no other choice, and ran with it. (...)
Why I loved it:
First I need to tell you that I’m biased here because I was one of the alpha readers of
digthewriter’s fic. Nevertheless it got me hooked right from the start.
We meet Draco in a cruel post war world. Nobody has given him a job in ten years and now he has no other options than to sell his body or his skin. To sell his skin seems to be the lesser evil and so he does. He signs a years-long contract and his pale nearly flawless skin becomes a canvas for Britain’s most famous magical and muggle style tattoo artist Harry Potter. Draco literally becomes his asset and at the beginning Harry is treating him just like that. But over time one can see that Harry’s hiding something from Draco. Something big like feelings, desire...even love.
Now, that you are properly warned about the harsh circumstances and Harry being a bit of an OcC git at the beginning, I’m telling you why you should read this story nonetheless.
The descriptions of Harry’s tattoos are gorgeous, from the drafts, Avi’s tattoos, and Draco’s occasional body painting to Draco's big tattoo. I really hope an artist will give the last one a try some day. And Dig's Draco is absolutely adorable. His life has been hard and it shows in his demure behaviour but he is still himself and it was a joy to view his surroundings from his witty pov. There are some interesting OCs and journeys in this story and I loved the most Harry’s housekeeper Asha and the events during their journey to Romania.
I loved how the tone changed over time. At the beginning Draco seems to be a weak and Harry a strong character, in the end it could be the other way round. But if you take a closer look, you can see that they both need each other like one needs oxygen. Such stories give me all the happy feels.
Excerpt:
Potter snorted. "You don't give up, do you?"
Draco raised an eyebrow trying to ask: Are you really asking me that?
"Fine," Potter said and he removed his shirt.
Right. Draco was such an idiot. He was already standing too close to Potter and now Potter had gone and taken his shirt off. How was Draco planning to breathe?
Potter turned his back towards Draco, and Draco watched the stag swerve a bit as if it were a drawing on a curtain and a breeze had just passed by. Draco wanted to reach out and touch it. The stag. Potter's skin. He'd never wanted to wrap his arms around another man as badly as he wanted to with Potter at that moment. He cleared his throat, grabbed a few of his sketches, and compared them to the tattoo on Potter's back.
