Rules

Important Dates
Sign ups: cards can be requested anytime before Dec 31
Round one: June 10 to Dec 31, 2010
Amnesty period: Jan 1, 2011 to Jun 1, 2011

Rules

1. Each bingo card is a randomized 5X5 grid filled with hurt/comfort prompts drawn from a master list. The goal is to make a bingo on your card. A bingo can be made as a line, blackout, X, or +. For more information see Points and Scoring.

2. Squares are marked off toward a bingo or an extra by filling the prompt within the square. For each square a new piece of fanwork (fic, art, vid, etc.) must be created.

3. You can submit any kind of fannish content: fics, art, vids, podics, picspams, rec lists, icons, mixes and so on. To keep the amount of work a fill takes consistent there are minimum requirements for a fill. They are as follows:
fic - 500 words
meta - 1000 words
art - medium sized
icons - set of 10
rec post - 10 recs
podfic - 500 word fic
picspam - 20 pics
vids - 30 seconds
mix - 10 songs

4. After completing your first bingo you may complete extras on your current card or request a new card. Extras cannot be completed until the bingo has been made and they do not count toward a bingo. For more information on extras see Points and Scoring.

5. You must complete at least one bingo on your card before requesting a new one. However if you received a card with prompts of a triggering nature for you, please contact the mods ASAP, so that we can work with you to create a more suitable card.

6. Anything already publicly posted may not be used to fill a square for h/c bingo.

7. You can reuse any square on your card as many times as you want but each use must be a new piece of fic, art, etc. A fill cannot be used in more than one bingo or extra.

8. Fills can be posted where you see fit (your journal, communities, AO3, etc.). To receive a bingo, and the relevant points, you must post to the hurt/comfort bingo community where you signed up for your card - i.e. if you signed up on dreamwidth you must post to the dreamwidth community. Your post to the community must include all relevant links. All links need to go to open posts (no locked/private entries/sites). For more information see Posting Template. We will only count points for what is posted to the comm before Dec 31.

9. By signing up for a card you are committing to fill at least one prompt by the end of the round. Since it's not an exchange challenge, there's no penalty for defaulting: ultimately, you need to fill just one square during the posting / amnesty periods to be eligible for the next round.

10. If you have not filled a prompt by Dec 31, 2010 you can still fill prompts during the amnesty period. Prompts filled during the amnesty period will not receive points.

11. All prompts are open to interpretation. For example, 'assault' and 'aliens made us do it' don't necessarily have to have sexual content; 'multiple personalities' could be interpreted as living with a mental condition, or as several consciousness being forced into one body by scientific or magical means; 'tentacles' can vary from a character being attacked by something be-tentacled to the difficulties of being water-bound; 'loss of vision' could mean a temporary or permanent loss of sight, or the loss of ones' vision/goal/future/psychic sight etc.

12. Some hurt/comfort prompts can be potentially triggering. If you're uncomfortable with writing about sexual trauma and/or abuse based situations, please note that when you sign up so we can give you a card avoiding these areas altogether.

Besides that, you can look at the list of prompts the cards are made from before signing up and veto from one to three prompt/areas that would be triggery/uncomfortable for you to write about. If you need more than three prompts vetoed, please contact the mods by PM or email (hc.bingo.mods@gmail.com) and we will work with you to make sure you have a suitable card.

13. Your fanwork should have more than just a singular mention of the prompt. It should deal with it in some way. For example, if your prompt is "broken bone" that should be a significant factor in your fanwork, not just a passing mention. How you deal with a prompt is left at your discretion. Remember that the genre is both 'hurt' and 'comfort'.

14. Even if it is in the prompt you are still required to warn for rape/non-con, dub-con, incest, character death/suicide, graphic self-harm, any type of sexual trauma, any type of child/domestic abuse, and any other triggering themes or images. The other warnings are left to your discretion, though we encourage you to warn as fully as possible. When in doubt, please err on the side of caution.

If you don't want to warn for something because it would spoil your story, please use this code from
amadi's post on warnings to make a greyed-out warning readers can choose to read or not.

15. If you are writing RPF, please do not use anyone's existing children as the focus of your fill.

Prizes

There will be first, second, and third place winning slots. The winners will be determined by who has accrued the most points with their bingos. Prizes will be as follows:

Third place - 10 icons of whatever fandom/images the winner likes
Second place - 20 icons of whatever fandom/images the winner likes
First place - 30 icons of whatever fandom/images the winner likes

All Bingos - participation banner/icon
Blackouts - personalized banner/icon

There will also be arbitrary mod prizes that are, naturally, arbitrary, but those winners will each receive one wallpaper of whatever fandom/images they like.

Additionally there will be a submission post where you will be able to submit a commission offer to give something to the winners - fic, art, picspam, etc.

Signing Up for a Card
To sign up for a card please leave a comment either in the sign up post on dreamwidth or the sign up post on livejournal. This will be the community where you will post your completed fills after you get your card.

Please sign up only on livejournal or on dreamwidth, since both communities have one scoring system. Don't sign up in both places at once.

If you're uncomfortable with writing about sexual trauma and/or abuse based situations, please note that when you sign up so we can give you a card avoiding these areas altogether. Besides that you can look at the list of prompts the cards are made from before signing up and veto from one to three prompts/areas that would be triggery/uncomfortable for you to write about. If you need more than three vetoed, please contact the mods by PM or email (hc.bingo.mods@gmail.com) and we will work with you to make sure you have a suitable card.

Posting
Once you have completed a bingo you must post it to the community to receive points. Please do not post single fills to the community. Please follow the Posting Template.

You should post to the community you've signed up to, i.e. only to livejournal or dreamwidth one, not both at once.

Even if it is in the prompt you are still required to warn for rape/non-con, dub-con, incest, character death/suicide, or graphic self-harm, any type of sexual trauma, any type of child/domestic abuse, and any other triggering themes or images. The other warnings are left to your discretion, though we encourage you to warn as fully as it's possible. When in doubt, please err on the side of caution.

If you don't want to warn for something because it would spoil your story, please use this code from
amadi's post on warnings to make a greyed-out warning readers can choose to read or not.
