Photos from Lunar Module and Die Maschine last night

As the heading suggests, a selection of photos from Lunar Module's performance at Trash Or Treasure at the Abercrombie Hotel. This was an interesting, small event, with the majority of the action evidently being outdoors in the beer garden (there were two other DJ setups inside the place, but in the time we were there I saw hardly anyone indoors; the crowd, such as it was, was almost all outside) where the live bands played.

We should start by acknowledging the opening act, The Gruntled, of whom I only really got one decent shot. They had an interesting set-up, involving hurdy-gurdy, some sort of bagpipe thing, what looked like a couple of recorders, jew's harp, guitar and drums. Just a shame the music they made with them wasn't actually terribly interesting.

But it was Lunar Module I was there for, really. Alas, the night was not on their side. I've not yet seen them give an actually bad performance, but I have seen them suffer through gigs where the sound mix was not in their favour, and there's no getting around the fact that last night was one of those. You may observe the foldback speaker at the front of stage in the earlier shots below vanishes. That's because Ant had to move it behind him after the first song was over so Pete could hear himself on drums. But generally the mix wasn't right, and the sound guy insisted on making them quiet for some reason (at least by comparison with the DJ's music afterwards, which was at more of a volume than the band); I suppose that didn't help The Gruntled much either. I don't know if I'm quite as enthusiastic now about the prospect of the IVD maybe playing at a future TOT as I was before last night if that's the sort of thing we might be contending with.

On the plus side, though, the photos I got of the band are probably the best I've been able to get yet. This is almost the whole lot that I took last night, barring a few I deleted at the gig or didn't think were good enough later:

And here's a crowd shot.

Once the gig was over, Jo'h and I got a lift up the road to Die Maschine, where I got a few more photos.

It obviously wouldn't be a club photo shoot without at least one instance of Katja in it.

How disturbing can a photo of Frank get without him actually taking his shirt off? I don't know, but this must give you some idea...

Lunar Module again, with Bones. The light poured out of he...

I still haven't worked out exactly what the Rev. Kriss Hades was doing at DM, but he gave the night a bit of Rock that it otherwise seemed to lack.

A certain Mr Walker, caught in the act of trying to usurp me as the Sydney goth scene's resident Cunt With The Camera At Clubs.

Ah, that's better. Frank striking a more characteristic pose.

Much more characteristic.
