Yesterday was not all that interesting. The Quiet One worked, his 'go live' is Wednesday midnight, and he is tense and preoccupied.

We ate in the hotel dining room, which is adequate and it's main goodness is in the fact that they have English menus. I had fairly normal food - a salad of sliced pears, prosciutto type ham, an interesting vinegrette - an unidentified white fish fillet (well, two, really) pan fried without batter with a sauce of leeks, lemon and creme, potato on the side - what they called a cheese cake and what I would call a cheese tart. Even the cheese had too much flour in it for me. TQO got to eat both of those. It reminded me of medieval cheese pies, really, and had cassis or a raspberry syrup type thing drizzled on it.

We went for an exercise walk. I worked on the crochet, which involved figuring out that I had read the instructions incorrectly on the first row and ripping out almost a whole ball of yarn and starting over. Eyelash is, as I said, a bitch to work with.

I was mildly amused by watching a few American movies with Portugese translations and wondered what they did with the curse words. They translated 'nigger' to be 'paisan' or something close. A teenager walks up and says "hey, guys". And in portugese it says "Ola, gentles." Not quite the same.

One thing I like about this city is that it is full of plants. I think that is one thing that makes a city ugly or not to me - I think it also helps with air quality. Every little nook of dirt has a tree, bush, plant of some kind and most of them have flowers on them. I even saw orchids outside, blooming, in 'winter'.

I started reading a book called Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn. I was totally intrigued on page two.

Today, my mission is to get TQO's clothes to the cleaners as early as possible, so I better hustle. Living in a hotel. Yuk. We have not found a coin laundry. I never found one in Europe. I am going to wash undies in the sink, I think and take pants and shirts to the cleaners. Pretty exciting, huh?
