What's the point in living in such a supposedly liberal city if they won't even fund schools? My daughter goes to one of the schools that needs to be rebuilt. But I guess now we just have to live with the knowledge that if there's an earthquake here sometime in the next eight years during school hours my kid will die.
Her school has a "Very High" collapse potential, only one other school in the district is as definitely fatal in the event of a major earthquake.
Not that it probably will happen, but it's not completely unlikely either. Something like a 10 to 14 percent chance that a 9.0 earthquake will hit this area in the next 50 years?* FUCK you cheap ass bastards who refuse to pay slightly more property tax for the sake of maybe not being responsible for the death of hundreds of children. I KNOW I KNOW it probably won't happen. But if people aren't willing to pay taxes for this, WTH are they willing to pay taxes for? I don't get it.
*According to something I read in the Oregonian last year.
