Turku Train Station

A sunny summer day turned into a thunderstorm so I took a taxi to the station. The train to Tampere will leave in half an hour. Excited.

I apparently got my 13 year old cousin Kaisa hooked on Inu Yasha. Before I left, I borrowed her all the 108 episodes and the first movie, which is all that has been fansubbed of the particular anime series so far. What a pile of CDs.

Now I think I'll watch another episode of X while waiting for the train.

We're just about to go to sleep at Liina's and Aki's place. It's been practically years since I met my cousin Liina and her partner Aki. Very friendly and nice people. They are living in a wonderful two store flat in an athmospheric wooden house built in 1923 about a kilometre or so from the centre. I go to Tampere rarely, but every time I do I like it more. It's got distinctly different feel to it compared to Turku and Helsinki. Lot's of old architecture and wooden houses from early 1900's. We went to evening walk with Krisse since he wanted to fetch something from the farmacy down town. Once we were there, I decided to buy 10 packs of old salmiakki to hand out to friends in London. We walked back to Liina's and Aki's place while it was raining soft and warm summer rain. There were occasional cracks of thunder and flashes of lightning. The nearby woods emitted a strong odour of nature, spring turning into summer. There's something I'll miss going abroad.

Tomorrow we'll get up at 6:30 to catch the 7:20 bus to the airport. The flight is at 9:10. Now to brush my teeth and get to bed.

Somewhere 10 kilometres above Finland

The flight took off from the small terminal outside Tampere. Now we're really getting into the mood. It felt funny to be able to choose your own seating in the plane opposed to the normal system where you take the seat where your boarding pass tells you to.

This should be mostly a relaxed day as the flight from Stockholm Skavsta to London Stansted doesn't leave until 16:00 in the afternoon. Plenty of time to take a nap at the airport.

11:32 Swedish Time GMT+1

Skavsta airport, middle of nowhere. We've still got 2½ hours until check in and then further two hours before take off. The weather's fine so we went outside with all the luggage and I took a nap in the sunshine. The airport is rather small and seems to be for Ryanair traffic only, apart from couple of small private planes we saw at the field. I don't feel as I was abroad yet even though all the signs are in Swedish and there's the local currency Crowns in use. We can pay with euros at the store though.

14:31

I've mostly been napping. When not, we've been fooling around with the Sega Megadrive/Genesis emulator on my laptop with it's approximately 200 games dating from 1989 - 1995. It's a long wait, but we just checked in the luggage and got thru the security so we're a step closer to Britain.

Kilburn, London

Feeling kind of like returned home. Met Alan, Mo and Osman. Everything is as before with these guys. From what Alan said in this vague style it's apparent that I'll be able to work at Microservice again, which is great. Tomorrow I'll meet up with Alan 1 PM at the shop. There was no studio flat available at the moment, so Moe gave us a key to a huge lodge in zone 2 Kilburn for temporary accomodation. We've got three bedrooms, a kitchen, bath and living room for two of us. There will be a £300/week flat available at Prince's Square from the end of the month. We'd just need to find a third person to share it with us to afford it. We'll come up with something.

When we got to the flat we just threw our luggage on the floor and went out for late dinner. We walked down the busy high street and enjoyed the London night. We ate at a Turkish kebab place. I had a tasty meal of falafel in pita bread, hummus and salad as Krisse filled his tummy with the biggest burger on the menu. Tomorrow we'll wake up at 8 in the morning and leave for the centre. Krisse is getting all braced up and ready to look for work.
