Ready, Set, ...

My luggage is all packed and I'm ready to go. The train to Tampere leaves at 6 PM this monday. I'll meet Krisse there and we'll spend the night at my cousin Liina's place. Tuesday morning the flight takes off to Stockholm and to our destination London, Stansted. I called to London this evening and talked to Alan, my good old boss at Microservice. Everything seems to be alright with the flat and I'm guessing I'll be able to work for the company again, at least part time.

What's happened lately?

On Tuesday I met with professor Tuomas Huumo at the department of Finnish Linguistics. I told him I had decided to do master's thesis on smileys :) in the Finnish language and after a short discussion he approved and actually said it's a good idea. I'm excited about this and I'll be looking for some literature on this issue and electronic communication in general during the summer. In the evening we had a relaxed birthday party for me and for my sister who turned 21. This was mainly for relatives as both of us had had a party for friends earlier.

On Wednesday I went to Helsinki to deliver a traditional long bow I had made to Julius. Later that day I met with my friends Antti and Nanna and spent the evening and most of Thursday with them. We talked a lot about London with Antti, as he was there with me for 10 months during 2001 and 2002. Had a good time.

Friday night I met with Taina and Matti at their flat at Ylioppilaskylä. We chatted for hours, Taina made delicious pancake and we had an inspiring music listening session. Too bad I messed up with Easy CD Extractor and managed only to get one of the albums I tried to rip right. The album I got was Squarepusher - interesting and different. We'll have to have another music session in September as Matti has lots of good stuff and he knows this field better than well.

On Satuday I met with my Japanese friend Akio around noon. We had a cup of tea at my parents' house and then we went for a walk to nearby forest. We climbed to the top of the high cliff of Luolavuori and had a clear view of the city. Then we visited my granny, had a cup of tea again and talked. Akio speaks very good Finnish and has imroved a lot in less than a years time. Still my granny's local Turku dialect gave Akio little difficulties, but he was still able to understand my granny well. We had a look at old pictures from early 1900's and chatted about history of Finland. There were interesting pictures of Turku and the people in 1930's, for example. We went back to my parent's house where my sister Kerttu had prepared a tasty veggie meal of tofu, curry vegetables, rice and salad. Later I took all my climbing gear and set to Kustavi with Perttu. Pauli and Eljas picked us up at Taivassalo and we went to check a new climbing site couple of kilometres from Kustavi centre. It was awesome. Too bad I won't be around to climb it before september. We went to our summer house where at 11 PM. My parents had already stayed there for couple of days. We had sauna and an extraordinary dinner before going a sleep.

On Sunday the plan was to climb all day at Kräkiniemi, but it was raining so much before noon so that we couldn't climb at all that day. We slept late instead and after the breakfast Perttu, Pauli and Eljas set to look for new climbing cliffs. I went rowing to sea for a while and then returned to Turku with my parents. That was a good idea, since I had all evening for packing my luggage. I talked to Perttu and mates on the mobile later and they were all excited about the new climbing sites they found today. It seems that Kustavi will be the new centre for trad climbing in this part of Finland.

Now to sleep. It's bye bye Turku tomorrow (today).
