*shakes fist*

Damn Proton. First they try to weasel another RM1,500 out of me for a "sports body kit" I don't want. OK, so when I said I'd buy the car, which had a list price of RM42,000, the dealer said he'd give me a RM3,000 discount. No way, I said, this is too good to be true. He said, yes way, it's true! Suspiciously I asked, "and everything and all the accessories, registration, 1 yr insurance, 5-year warranty, all the various taxes, are still included?" He assured me they were. So we gave them the check on Monday night. The guy said the car would be ready by Friday.

Then on Tuesday night, the dealer's manager called to "offer" me the "sporty body kit" at a LOW LOW PRICE of RM1,500. I said I didn't want it. But she said I HAD to get it or I would have to pay RM3,000 more for the car. I said WTF.

It turns out that the RM3000 discount was dependent on me then spending that allegedly saved RM3000 to buy an (ugly) "exclusive sporty body kit" (consisting of bumper extensions and junk I didn't want or need. actually worth about RM1,000). So basically, if I didn't want the body kit, I wouldn't get the RM3,000 discount and the car would then cost RM42,000. Comprendez-vous? I didn't think so.

Anyway, they failed to tell this to me. Also, this wasn't stated ANYWHERE in the invoice or the sales lit or in the dealership. All they said at the point of sale was, it's the last of the '06 models, so we're giving you a RM3,000 discount. No strings attached.

So I yelled at them in English, and then handed the phone to my brother-in-law to yell at them in Cantonese (because they ran out of English and couldn't understand my questions.) I (through him) told them that I didn't WANT the stinking body kit installed on MY car, which had been paid for in full in accordance with the amount that THEY quoted, I had the receipt to prove it, and that what they were doing was bordering on fraud. Finally the dealer (not his manager) agreed to honor the discount but still throw in the body kit, and the dealership would basically eat the cost.

and today they tell me my car won't be ready till next week. They haven't even registered it though they charged an additional RM50 on Monday for the DMV runner's fee. Oh, and BTW I owe them another RM216, because Proton (the car company) allegedly issued an incorrect invoice and the corrected invoice shows an additional "shop price" of RM216. If I were a cynic I'd think that they were charging me for the inconvenience of not going along with their scam. At the very least, though, I think they're being incredibly unprofessional. This is no way to run a car dealership, and if it's true that Proton issued an incorrect invoice, then that's no way to run a car company.

At this point i'm tempted to tell them just to give me back my money, if I didn't need a car so bad. GAH.

car, stupid malaysian carmakers
