Feb Poll Response & News clips

Mar 14, 2010 17:42

Alright. Now, we are well aware that it is impossible to make everyone completely satisfied with H&V. But we definitely consider every person's opinion, appreciate your feedback and suggestions, and try to find a solution that is satisfactory for the majority. It's the best we can do.

First, I would like to thank everyone for their votes and feedback in our February Poll.

+ Homepage: Reduced the content of the homepage, shortening news posts for easier scrolling and viewing.

+ Tags: We have trimmed up the tags, adding related ones together, and getting rid of a few that can be covered through tags in other classification categories. This one was a bit difficult for us. The majority of you liked the tags as they were, but when combining the people who wanted more and wanted less, it was almost equal to those who were satisfied. That is why we did not take any tags away - we only combined a few (eg: Baby/Children and Pregnancy is now Baby/Children/Pregnancy, etc) or removed those covered by something else (eg: Class Project was removed because it can be covered by Forced Partnership in Themes and a Year selected in Timeline, Ministry Profession was removed from both Draco and Hermione classifications because we have Ministry in Themes, etc). We also cut the fat in Characters.

For those who wanted more tags: We are willing to consider adding tags if the tag is suggested by at least three individual people. If it relates to another tag, it will be added to that tag.

+ Caps: We're going to be upping the cap for submissions. We know it's a pain to only be able to submit two things a day. And if validators are only human, then you get more humans and you build a machine, right? Right. So we're going to be adding more validators to our staff. This is going to be a bit of a process, so you're going to have to hang in there with us. We're going to be opening it to our HV Beta Readers and anyone who is PI-certified first. We might be opening it up to everyone through an application process after that. Then we have to show the new validators the ropes and get them comfortable. So it's going to be a little while before we can announce anything concrete with that.

Before that, we will be having periods where you can submit more per day. The first period is March 15-22, and you can submit four chapters per day, from two different stories. You can submit chapters from one story or two, with a total of four chapters a day. We're having this period before adding more validators because of the dmhgficexchange stories. We will continue to be aware of the community in these situations, and do what we can to make posting stories an easier process for everyone.

Also, we will be making a post for PI-certified volunteers shortly after this one. If you're interested but not PI-certified, we will be posting for any remaining slots within the next two weeks. :)

+ Invitation Feature - Members can now invite people they want to join/think would be interested in joining HV. If someone else has already invited that person, or they are already a member, the email will not go through. We're opening this on a trial period to see how it goes. Also, for an extra, the person who invites the most people and the person who has the most people register through them will get a trophy at the end of the month. This is what that strange little referrer link has been in your Account Management. :) If you do not want to invite people, you absolutely do not have to.

+ We have created a Welcome Guide for those who might have confusion over certain things when they first register.

+ We have taken the highlights off warnings and genres in the story information box. Genres are now in italics, warnings are underlined.

+ Skins - There is artwork being created for a new skin. We're also making another color variation of the Clean skin so there is an option for something without a heavy black/white contrast while reading.

In other news, we will be posting the timeline and rules for the Reverse Challenge on the 16th, so look out for that!
