Downtime Explanation

Mar 12, 2010 16:05

Hello, sorry to interrupt the Q&Aness. I thought this was a rather important topic to post, though. I've already posted an update on my journal explaining the issue but this post will serve as a trouble-shooting entry.

In a nutshell: the downtime happened because my host changed the name servers of the hosting and I was away so I was unable to pass on the message for dramione.org to be changed.

No data was lost.

The name servers were changed yesterday, so HV should be up and running, but it is, unfortunately, one of those "computer must sit and wait" things for some people.

[1] If HV is on/off for you, then the option is, essentially, to just sit and wait for a period of time where the site IS working for you.

[2] If you're worried the site might be down altogether, we recommend looking at downforeveryoneorjustme.com.

[3]If you're a Windows user, open up the Command Prompt (by running cmd.exe or Start > Accessories > Command Prompt) type in: ipconfig /flushdns. This should "uncache" dramione.org and, if you visit dramione.org after, it should "re-cache" the new "address". Please read here for more information.

[4] If you're still having issues, type in the Command Prompt: tracert dramione.org and ping dramione.org and e-mail me (elyaeru[at]dramione[dot]org) the results. This won't fix anything, but show me details so I can troubleshoot it further for you. If you're getting an error such as "Ping request could not find host dramione.org. Please check the name and try again." Please tracert accio.nu and ping accio.nu instead.

Basically, the site should work for people, but there are some cases where it's still not.

I'm very sorry for all this ruckus!
