note to self, stuff to do more digging around into when I'm awake:
* how to get Opera to stop using any search engine in the address bar for things I may have typo'd. I can set a primary search engine but what I want is *no* search engine, just tell me I made an error and let me fix it - i.e. QUIT TRYING TO HELP, GOOGLE! just GO AWAY IF I NEED YOU I KNOW HOW TO REACH YOU * how to get Opera to just give me a plain old blank page instead of some kind of 'starting' page with a google-search-bar and prompts on some kind of theme-y background (I did set the 'theme' background to plain old white which drastically reduces the distraction factor and cluttered look) * FF 12 instead of 30+ ?
Skype's (lack of)Privacy Policy is scary as hell. I haven't seen anything as frightening since PayPal's T&Cs (aka "PayPal can do whatever they hell they want with my bank account and I have no recourse"). And millions of people do this voluntarily.
Spent far too much time trying to find the camera controls so I could enable them (I always immediately disable camera, microphone, and other unwanted peripherals on any new machine). Turns out there wasn't one, since at the time this was ordered the camera had become optional. So that's one less thing to worry about.
Anyhow, after 16 hours, it seems to be working. Tomorrow I'll try testing it with an actual person on the other end, then the interviews, then I hope to be able to uninstall it by Friday and get on with things. Online voice chat has zero appeal for me. I've already got three different types of IM, email, text chat, two cell phones, SMS, and if needed, can fire up Google chat. There are plenty of ways to reach me.
