Husband is home from his first week with a new client. He's tired, but very upbeat. Once he's caught up on sleep he will likely be driving me nuts with happy-energy "let's do something about this mess", whereas I've been too nauseous ($%#&!@ Naprosyn) to be a very good housewife this week.
Most of his previous assignments have been not fun, not interesting, or extremely stressful. Working in an office with people who have zero morale left and are all either actively job-hunting, or who have given up on finding anything and now simply hoping the threats of offshoring don't pan through ... is not fun. It wears you down, mentally, even if you're only there for a few weeks as a third party contractor. The really good people, and the ones with self-esteem, initiative, and marketable skills and business/systems knowledge, have already left (or if highly paid seniors, been laid off). Now he's in a place with competent staff who don't get regular threats and who (mostly) like what they do and the company they work for.
So yay for happy husband.
I am still job-hunting. Last week included two interviews, both of which turned out well. The perm job is likely a no-go, as I was getting a not-happy-with-her vibe from one of the seniors. The others ranged from "you're the most {pause, searching brain for tactful lawsuit-avoiding wording} unusual {pause to get mental train on track} blend" {skillsets and background} to "I hope we can get you in".
The other was for a long-term contract with a previous client, and was continually interrupted by people walking past the office, doing a double-take after seeing me through the window, squealing, and then barging in for hugs and "YOU ARE COMING BACK?!?!?!" The managers want me, it's just monolithic, policy-bound corporate red tape that may be the issue.
In both cases, the final decision is out of my hands and has nothing to do with anything I can control. Polite follow-up contacts will be made next week, we'll see.
Meanwhile, I have a messy house and a happy husband who will shortly bounce out of his chair and want to do something productive around the house so he can spend the rest of the day playing computer games without guilt. So I need to be ready for that, with something ready to be done.
Have a good weekend!
